Tietoja minusta

I just finally broke down and started blogging my reading. I found the set up here on LT to be too constricting to give the reviews I really wanted because I felt people click to the book's page to find out quickly if they'll like it. To stick a 700 word review on it, at least IMO, is like saying, "Look at me!! Look at me!!"

So I created In the Shadow of Mt. TBR. I also just started using my redroom blog specifically about writing. And I've got my work on Booksie. I list all my links at I want more KOOL-AID!, which is a page on the Mt. TBR blog. visit and comment!

I am a single mother of three beautiful daughters, ages 9, 13, and 15. I read with my kids almost everyday (I shoot for everyday, but sometimes life gets into the way of that.) I've got a broad interest in books, from Junie B.s I've fallen in love with the series from reading it with my 9-year-old, and we are heart-broken because we've read all of them!, to Stephanie Plum hilarious!, and authors like Lois Lowry, Harlan Coben, Ray Bradbury, and Stephen King. I have only been reading contemporary fiction since about January, so I also have a deep love of the classics.

I'm doing the 50 Book Challenge, and I'm reading about 2-3 books a week. I only wish I was a speed reader with a photographic memory... sigh... so many books, so little time!

Howdy, neighbor!

I Live near South Bend.
I've never joined any of the groups because I doubt I'd have time to contribute. With keeping track of four blogs, plus all my other "online personas," plus trying to work once in a while ;) (oh, and see my wife from time to time), it's difficult. I'm on a few groups with Shelfari, but even there, I don't really have time to contribute like I should. I think I just have to limit how many more things I can join.
Oh no, I am sorry, I just gave it to the first person who posted on the thread. If I get any more gift copies of the book - everyone knows how much I love her books, you will be the first on the list. :-)
I discovered you while reviewing comments on The Kite Runner (just completed it). Enjoyed your blogg. Where do you find so much time to read. I envy you. I have two boys 12 and 14 and even with a book always in my pocket I'm always behind in my yearly goals.

Best..HH
I just wanted to pop over and tell you how much I'm enjoying the reviews from your Jane-a-thon that are up on your blog. It's such a great idea, and I'm looking forward to hearing what you have to say about Emma! Oh, and I hated Wicked too!
My personality flaw is similar: I am too darned argumentative, especially on the 'net. Trying to curb that these days, but a pithy sarcastic comeback now and then won't hurt me, eh? :)

I'm afraid that you are awesomer than awesome. The awesomest, in fact.
Still laughing over your "awesome" response and that dog picture.
Ok, so I think wordpress hates me, but I just wanted to let you know that I've posted two comments on your giveaway and they don't appear to be showing up! I didn't want to post another one in case they all show up at once, but just in case, I'd love to be entered and I blogged about your giveaway here:

Happy birthday :).

Hey I just read your comment on Candide. I wasn't really railing on it, I don't think. You kids with your new-fangled slang! Is railing bad (I sound like Frankenstein's monster...railing BAD!)? Not if you need to support yourself while using stairs or to prevent yourself from falling off a high balcony...

But I digress...

Um...oh yeah, I rated it 3/5 stars, which is average. Maybe I am just not a big fan of Olde Timey satire. I didn't like Castle Rackrent and I haven't liked anything by Jonathan Swift. Candide was the best of the bunch, though, so that's saying something.

I noticed it was your birthday, so I dropped by to send my best wishes. I hope you get lots of lovely books.
Also I hope you don't mind that I sent you a friend request on BM.
Is that an actual picture, or did you Photoshop in the seal?

And if you didn't, why are you so damn cool?

Are you an Asian female or is that that picture.

To be honest I never really got a chance to get involved with the story and the characters in the book before a trip to the library and finding Gone with the Wind totally sidetracked me! The little I did read though reminded me, in a way, of Angela's Ashes. It's beautifully written, that much I know! =) I'll pick it up again later, I got a feeling it's a good read.
No problem - I'll move it to the top of my TBR pile. It's small enough that I should be able to get it finished while I'm sitting in the Newark airport this weekend. I'll be gone for 2 weeks, but I'll send it out when I get back. Glad to share the wealth!
I guess it's a book I'll have to reread again. Part of the problem might also be that I'm not wild about modern apocalyptic stories, where a small group of people band together in abandoned houses and gas stations to battle some unknown zombie-like creature. But then again, I'm willing to give Stephen King a second chance on just about anything, so I'll add it to my ever growing list of books to read and reread!
Well, it is 14 days from when I get back from this work trip (I'm leaving for that on Friday). Right now it is 24 days away.
It never did, but I'm going out of town in a couple of days and when I get back it will be t minus 14 days 'til my wedding, so I'm going try one more time to subscribe, but don't bother sending anything because I won't be around much to read it anyway. I may have to start back up after the honeymoon, though.

Thanks, by the way, for sending it all the time!
Basically it is a way for everyone to get together and talk about what they're reading. You sign up and your post is included in a feed on their site, so that people that don't normally read your blog can check you out. Here's the link.
Awesome! You're on mine now too. I can't wait to see more and more posts. I know you have wordpress as an 'also on', but I would also add your URL to your profile. I've gotten lots of hits that way.
Was it you asking about Tuesday Thingers? Every Tuesday morning, Marie at Boston Bibliophile posts a topic for blogging and we all chime in. Then if you want you can leave a comment on her blog that you've posted and follow the webring around to read everyone else's posts. There's info on joining the webring on the TT group page if you want to do that, but you're not required to; you can just post on the topic and comment on Marie's blog and people will look you up even if you're not in the official ring.
That's great about your new blog (because you have so much free time in which to blog, of course). I'll add you to my blogroll. It's actually quite a self-discovery adventure to see what you decide you want to be posting to the world, for their edification or your own expression, and how you choose your audience. Enjoy.
Thanks for the link! P.S. No problem that you haven't read Q.L. yet - I've got quite a backlog myself! But do let me know what you think of it when it gets to the top of your "to read" pile. :-)
Well, they are 15 and 13 so they aren't too little. Actually, I am more worried about me than them:)! While I was reading the book, I kept wondering how scary a movie had to be before it got an R rating instead of a PG13 rating. I have a feeling this movie may be one of those that we only watch a little bit of and then I send it back to Netflix. We wound up doing that with The Mummy because the boys just couldn't take it.
I liked those three too although I Am Legend was my favorite. I really enjoyed it and found it extremely scary. So much so, that I told my boys that I didn't know if we could take watching the movie! We plan on watching it over the summer but we may watch it the week that my girls go to my SIL's for a visit to we can watch it during the daylight!
I just returned the book to the library so I can't remember the names off the top of my head. I wasn't thrilled with the one at the carnival where the man plays the game and keeps on winning and I didn't like the one about the 4 college kids that seemed to be set in the 50s/60s and was about the loopy dance or something like that. I think I liked all of the others. Which were the ones that you didn't like?
We read the Wrinkle in Time trilogy with our two too. The youngest, four, fell asleep pretty quickly every night, but our oldest, seven, was rapt. We are currently on book four of the Series of Unfortunate Events and both children love it.
Well, if you think the beginning is compelling (if also disgusting), then you should love the rest of it!
I will definitely have to read Lisey's Story then...reading your description.

If you liked that it sounds like you may enjoy "Superstitious" by R.L. Stine. It was his "first" adult novel. Although, I don't know that he's written any since.
Hubby has Lisey's Story in the library...I may have to pick it up and let ya know what I think.

I'm really rather torn about what to read at the moment. I have 4 books coming from Amazon and a total of 4 ARCs. (You'd think they'd send them out quickly while you're still excited about it...)

So many books; so little time!
I tend to be meticulous about organizing information. If only my house were as clean as my profile page!

I don't even bother with a TBR pile. I have my "to purchase" but the LONG list of that is in the "I want to read that!" group just to keep my sanity (and then I can look up the touchstones.) My TBR pile is anything that doesn't have stars and/or a review. Some I've read and just haven't gotten around to yet.

I also like having a quick glance at what I've purchased and/or read in the last few books. (That way I can see that I purchased something that I should be reading, but haven't...lol.)

Your page isn't disorganized. And with three little ones I can understand not having time or being able to even think about updating!

How are the kids liking Wrinkle in Time? I remember reading it as a freshman, but I was so traumatized by the experience I had with that teacher that I disliked it very much. Lately, I've thought about giving it a second chance but there are SO many other books I want to read that I don't see it likely any time soon.
I saw you put Daniel Isn't Talking on your TBR list. Definitely read it. It's a little bit stereotypical (of the mother and the situation, not of the child I mean), but really worth reading. It's quite a journey.
Okay, so my question is, why were we not ALREADY LT friends? Also, I wanted to let you know that I LOVED Middlesex. I was totally skeptical, especially before you left me that message, but I'm convinced now. It was really terrific.
I'm sure you'll enjoy "Nim Chimpsky: The Chimp Who Would Be Human". Let me know what you think once you've read it.
We can do a happy dance competition! For the goofiest!! ;)
I am getting spoiled rotten for Mother's Day and every Mom should get a little surprise. (smooched all the known Moms on my friends list!)
There's a small package on it's way to you - it was delayed while I looked for a Maine postcard. (we live in Maine, but not one of the touristy areas, post cards are surprisingly hard to find! I asked my husband where I thought I should go to look for postcards and he told me to order some on the internet! lol)
Happy Mother's Day!
(oooh, I've got a 13 year old too - (sarcasm mode on) Fun age, eh? (end sarcasm mode)
