Tietoja minustaI'm an aspiring author of alternate history and historical fiction, currently focusing on the Napoleonic Wars. I read in the genres I write in, of course, plus a lot of mystery, romance, fantasy, nonfiction (especially history, politics, and science), and the occasional stray bit of theology.

Tietoja kirjastostaniI plan to catalog both the books I own and the ones I get from the library, not to mention books I buy, read once, and give to my local library. The latter two groups will be tagged "library" and "library donation." I'm trying to build up a stock of reference materials on the era I write about. Other than that, I just read what I like.

Looks like we have similar tastes! I'd love to hear more about your Napoleonic fiction...
Susan SW,

Read your profile and checked out your library. If you are an aspiring Napoleonic history writer there are two memoirs of the period written by junior level soldiers that you must read:

The Notebooks of Captain Coignet

On the Road with Wellington (this is the story of a German quartermaster who served with the British in the peninsular war)

Both are considered two of the best of this period..

I'm curious (and I know all agents are different) but when you wrote query letters to them, did you get favorable responses that they wanted to see more of your manuscripts, or did they send rejections based on your query letters? Or did you find that most agents request parts of your manuscript along with a query letter? How was the overall experience?

Best of luck on your new novel. Are you involved with any writing groups to help with critiques?

I tend to focus on the medieval period more myself. Most of the stuff I read -- and my writing -- falls in that category.

Tell me a little about your writing. Are you working on a novel, short stories, etc.? I've been working on my first novel for the past six years. It's certainly a challenging process.

Always nice to find other fans of Cornwell. He is my favorite author at the moment. I'm currently finishing up the Saxon Chronicles. Still have Lords of the North and Sword Song to read. What's your favorite series by Cornwell?

And of course, you have to love CS Lewis.
