Tietoja minustaPart-time student. Full-time admin officer. Former ESL teacher. Avid reader of YA fiction. Nerdfighter. Triple J fan. Book buying addict. Reader of manga. Australian. Former resident of Japan. Former taiko player. Current air taiko player. Would be writer. Terribly inconsistent correspondent. Female. Day dreamer.
Tietoja kirjastostaniI became a comic book nerd while living in Japan, thanks in large part to Joss Whedon's Fray. I am also a fan of young adult fiction who sends herself broke by purchasing a ridiculous number of books each month.
My library is somewhat eclectic. This eclecticity (I’m sure that’s not a word!) has lessened somewhat over the past four years when I embraced YA fiction and have concentrated on reading and purchasing books under this banner.
I rate books based on feelings rather than literary merit, although I have been known to take that into consideration. Since joining LT, I’ve become much more methodical about keeping track of what I read and when. For the past couple of months I’ve even begun recording my reading dates.
I’ve done a pretty good job of identifying which books I’ve read since 2005 and have placed them in collections according to year of reading. The collection of books marked as ‘read pre-2005’ is incomplete and will likely remain so. Of course, as I remember a book from my childhood or teen years I’ll be sure to add it to the list.
One of my new year’s resolutions for 2010 involves adding all books in my physical library to my LT library. We’ll see how I do.

I think that you would enjoy other books by George A.Birmingham just as much as those you have read.He was a very prolific writer.I have read a number of his books other than those listed ,some of which may be around somewhere, but not yet catalogued.Incidentally I remember reading an interview with Graham Greene in which he mentioned Birmingham as one of his favourite authors.
I have two copies of 'The Bad Times'and would be happy to send one on to you.

Thanks for letting me know you liked THINKING STRAIGHT! I love getting reader comments.
I can’t say that I had either adults or teens specifically in mind when I wrote it, to try and answer your question. I read about a teen whose parents were putting him into an “ex-gay” center, the director of which was quoted something along the lines of what I have Dr. Strickland in the book say: that he’d rather lose a teen to suicide than homosexuality. I sat down and started to write.
I’m hoping that people of all ages will read it, because the message is for everyone. But in particular, I hope gay teens read it and begin to get that they are okay, even with God (if that’s part of their philosophy). Gay teen suicides lead the way in our society, in terms of percentages, and that’s a tragedy I’d love to help abate. But if adults don’t read it too, the kids will still be on their own.
Kensington marketed it to the adult gay reader, but I get almost as much e-mail from teens.
This is a great question for the October discussion; I hope you log in and ask!
Thanks again –
-Robin

Where are you in Japan? I was there in 2001 (just after the 9/11 attacks in New York city) and met some Aussie's teaching English on my trip. Spent most of my time in Tokyo, but also visited Mishima. I was there with the Fulbright Teachers program. All the Aussies were all very gracious, gave us great tips on where to eat, and translated what they could for us!!
I sent you a friend request!
