Tietoja minusta I'm the author of the novels An Abundance of Katherines and Looking for Alaska.
Tietoja kirjastostani It's weird. I guess the focus is on contemporary fiction for adults and teenagers, and then books about Christianity, Islam, and the Islamic world. I also challenge all librarythingers to surpass my collection of books about conjoined twins.
I should add that our librarything includes not the books we've read, but the books we currently own that are currently in our apartment.

I picked up a copy of Looking for Alaska at the bookshop last night, and can't wait to race through my current read, so that I can start yours! However, this is not my reason for commenting. My little brother, who is a video-game-obsessed twelve-year-old, has told me on multiple occasions that he hates to read. For a bookworm like me, it's hard to hear such a thing. But, after getting him into the Vlogbrothers videos (his favorite is the chin wax - painful!), I produced Looking for Alaska and flaunted the fact that "cool guys" such as yourself can also be readers.
Thanks, to both your and your brother. My own nerdfighter sibling has forsaken the Nintendo in exchange for your book!
Audrey
PS - I've promised him a copy of Paper Towns, but since I've had little luck in getting an ARC from the Ning, when is the official release date? I'll have to satiate him with something like Captain Underpants until then. Ugh...

Thanks!

So glad to see you on LT. As a librarian for a high school, I'm always looking of the next great book to pass on. As I was reading Katherines, I thought, "I think I know this kid!" When I finished reading this great book, I handed it to the kid I had in mind and told him I thought he was starring in this book (minus the Jew-fro). Thanks for a great book!
Did you know Looking for Alaska is nominated for the Illinois Abraham Lincoln High School Book Award this year? If you win, I hope you will consider coming to the Illinois School Library Association's Conference, fall of 2009!
Keep 'em coming...

Just working on my list of books to read this year and I thought i'd check out your library for inspiration. (guess what? got plenty.) lol. I got very excited about some of the titles i saw on the list.
Also, i thought i should mention that although i often add "in my pants" to book titles, my brain absolutely could not stop itself from giving my hand the instruction to write down "everything that rises must also converge in my pants" as one fluid title. curses!

I just finished your book _Looking For Alaska_. It had me laughing out loud and crying real tears. I loved it!
I'm now sending my copy of _Looking for Alaska_ on a world-wide journey to BookCrossing members in Germany, United Kingdom, Finland, and South Africa. I hope they will enjoy it as much as I did.
For sure, I'll be picking up a copy of An Abundance of Katherines. I'm glad I discovered how well you write!

It's lovely to know that a book I am currently reading is by an LT author - you!
I received Looking For Alaska from an LT member as a Secret Santa gift this week. I'm really not that much into reading young adult novels, but I throughly enjoyed The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak this past year. After I read Prep by Curtis Sittenfeld and mentioned I liked reading life at about prep schools, someone on another list suggested that I read Looking for Alaska. I then promptly added it to my wish list. My Secret Santa found my wish, sent me the book - which I started reading right away, and just now found you here.
I'm really enjoying the book so far. I'm not sure what I'll do with it when I'm done, but I will definitely not keep it. I want to share it with other readers so they get a taste of your writing. Perhaps I'll start it on a Bookcrossing journey around the world as it's been quite a fun read so far.
I now see that YA books are not for only kids! Keep up the good work. I'll be looking for more of your books.
Have a safe and happy 2008!

I just wanted to chime in with praise for Looking for Alaska. You have an impressive way with the written word, and excellent recall for teenaged intensity. I enjoyed the many layers you wove together, and I won't soon forget your characters. When a book strikes a chord with me, it goes on the top shelf of my big bookcase. I just wanted to let you know that Looking for Alaska is in very good company. Thanks for all the awesome,
Mel

I went to wooster and graduated your year. Had some friends at Kenyon. I'm a high school librarian in Ketchikan, Alaska, and was pretty psyched when I read your bio.
Way to go brother! Keep up the great writing.

glad you're here. am a big fan of your books (and yes, including the mental_floss volumes) and it's nice to know we share about 30 books here in LT. (this is a bit embarrassing, but at some point early this year, pudge and colin hogged the number-one spot in my list of literary crushes. hahaha...)
by the way, i'm giving away copies of Alaska and Katherines to both young adults and adults this christmas. :)
happy holidays!

Thanks for getting me interested in librarything and realising I actually do have an account.
And thanks for the awesome tour of your library on youtube. It has inspired me to work towards a library of at least that size. I have a LONG way to go.
I also must read your books. I had heard of them but didn't look into them until now.
Keep up the awesome youtube work and may we all remain nerdfighters.

Thank you for turning me on to LibraryThing (via one of your videos).
Grateful as I am, I have to swear at you just a little bit. How many hours of sleep have you cost me?! Up until 2:30am feverishly entering ISBNs! Googling to the ends of the Internetsss for missing cover art! Okay, I admit, that's not your fault, that's the Chuck-getting-obsessive-over-a-new-toy thing again. Such things usually even out after a couple of weeks, so don't worry about me falling asleep at the wheel or anything. All I have to do now is face the extent of my new LibraryThing obsession, as in ... once I've got all the books in the house entered am I going to go out to the garage and deal with all the books in boxes that we currently don't have room for in the house? Oh dear.
Thanks though, honestly. :)

I hope the packing is going well. I am not sure if you follow the Read YA Lit group, but this month we are discussing your book Looking for Alaska. It would be wonderful if you had a chance to join in the discussion.

I have not read your novels yet, but I am buying one today. Do you consider yourself more of a young adult writer or a writer of adult fiction?

Welcome to library thing! I've enjoyed both your books and am entertained nightly by Brotherhood 2.0. I'm wondering if you would explain why you classify Looking for Alaska as Christian fiction.
Thanks!

Other, with respect, that I would possibly kill anyone who tried to call me Jon (a fine name, but not mine own), your point is of course taken. Such coincidences are always a pleasure. I wonder which edn of FLW you have. The first appeared with a very marginal outfit called Omnibus Press in 1979, then it was picked up by Pan, and now my former Pan editor who long since went out on her own, occasionally does reprints (these are what they call 'lavishly illustrated'. Well, there are pix.) I'm glad it remains useful. Small piece of info, which I hope you haven't suffered in offering your own flw: the first of the illustrated reprints (with lots more last wds than the original) came out the pub. date had the misfortune to coincide with the demise of Princess Diana. Or possibly the funeral. Anyway, pretty much every shop promptly cancelled their order. Hey-ho. And of course once one has dipped a toe in such terminal quotes, one cannot avoid wondering, or I can't: what shall I come up with....
Best,
JG

Thanks for commenting on my profile! I went sort of nuts, because, well... something like that's never really happened to me! Yeah, I named my profile after Alaska because she's my favorite female book character, and I got LibraryThing from Brotherhood 2.0 (which is very amusing, by the way!)
Well, thanks for making my week... It's been very crappy, my mother having been diagnosed with cancer, my parents have been on the verge of divorce, and I've been to the psychologist for depression and bipolar. It seems that immersing myself into my music and books is the only thing keeping me from going absolutely crazy.
I love your books! Keep writing!

I'm glad you found LibraryThing! It's been a pleasureable time-drainer for me for a while, now. We share about 30 books, but they mostly seem to be classics! I was expecting to see more YA stuff on our shared list, but I guess we've been reading different YA books. Although I have been trying to catalog all the books I've read (it's easier going forward than backward), and you gave the impression that you're cataloging only books you own. In any event, have fun with this amazing program!

Welcome to LibaryThing! I got so excited when you mentioned it on Brotherhood 2.0, having also lost many hours of sleep getting my books on here myself...and then getting friends to do the same. It's an addiction. I commented on Hank's bookPILES entry, cheering him and asking about your book storage; thanks for the vlogged perusal of the bookshelves, but I actually contemplated recommending LibraryThing to you. That thought didn't make it to the screen because, really, that's a lot of work! And I know you are very busy meeting up with all those other cool YA authors in NY to write and drink coffee and antagonize each other.
So this is a sort of thank you, because now I can stop squinting at the spines behind your head.
By the way, I've read both your books, enjoyed them immensely and am looking forward to number three.
Did you know you can get an Awesome Yellow Badge of Authorness on your page?

Good luck!
