Tietoja minusta Being an amateur local historian, of no repute (I'm still
learning), a genealogist, and editor of a local genealogical society's quarterly, I collect books on local history and writing. I say I collect; I don't always read what I collect, but I scan for content. Some of my books are valuable because they are very old and rare, others are a dime a dozen.

I've been collecting for over 30 years.

Tietoja kirjastostani Since I got the :cuecat and began entering books, I just couldn't stop. It became addicting; in a three-day period I entered 450 books from my in-house library. Knitting and quilting books are next. I've got 10 boxes still in the garage to enter that are classics mostly.

Arkansas births and deaths were, by statute, supposed to be recorded beginning in 1914, but there were still unrecorded births and deaths up through the 1940s. There are a lot of delayed birth certificates, as well as what they call "priors," which are delayed birth certificates that were kept in separate binders after 1942 (I think). You can buy a CD with 4 volumes of Priors on them; if you write to the Arkansas Department of Health, you have to tell them it was a delayed or prior birth certificate. Prior to the "prior" binders, the certificates were filed in the year of APPLICATION, not the year of birth. Nice to "meet" you! Regards, Carolyn

Hi Dorothy. I saw you had one of my books, so I checked out your profile (and we share 5 books). What's a cuecat? I have a C-scanner that just lets me scan in ISBNs or titles. And yes, I find this totally addicting. And for the first time in my life, I feel as though I might just get a handle on my library. Maybe this will keep me from always buying duplicate books!
