Oh, the Betsy and Tacey books! I love them, but haven't thought about them for a while. I don't own them, but glad someone else has them.
You are oh, so very welcome Danielle.
I hope you enjoy her. And I am glad I made your day a little more pleasant.
hugs,
belva
I'm pleased as punch! I haven't ever read either, but the *Lady A.* cover is one of my favorites. Enjoy!!!!!
Peggy
Yay! I'll try to get a package out to you tomorrow!
Peggy
Good morning Danielle.
The book, apparently has been chosen by now and it WILL be "People of the Book". The read will be hosted my Mark, msf59, on the 50 book gig as was the"Pillars of the Earth" group read. It will begin on November 1st and I don't believe that, as of yet, he has the sections broken down nor the threads set up as we have yet a month and a half before the read begins.
We would love if you could join us. You will be hearing more as the time draws near. I have yet to even get my book.
Hope to see you there and I will for sure see you on the threads.
Thank you so much for responding and for your input. We appreciate it.
hugs,
belva
Hi;
Mark and I have been discussing the possibility of another group read in November and want your input. We have narrowed it down to two books at this point. "The People of the Book" by Geraldine Brooks and "The Thirteenth Tale" by Diane Setterfield. So chat it up with friends or us and let us know if you are up for it and what you think. Probably the same plan as with "Pillars of the Earth" which seemed to work out perfectly for almost all of us.
Think it over and give one of us a shout.
hugs and looking forward to hearing from you,
belva
noodlejet, I found your blog via a blogging friend today and left some comments (I am paperback_reader) and from your posts I realised that you were also a LibraryThing member.

The fellow blogger who is co-hosting the Persephone Reading week is verityjdo who has just recently started her Verity's Virago Venture blog, which is great for Virago fans like us to read for recommendations. I see that you are also intending to read through all VMCs so between us all I'm sure we'll receive some great recommendations.

Happy reading!

Claire
Danielle;
It is very tough in the U.S. to find these titles. But part of the fun
is in the flushing out of them. I too, love the interaction of all the lovely people who are "in love" with the Persephone and Virago Press books. They seem to have such kind hearts and caring personalities and are very gentle folk.
It's not been all that long since I was introduced to the genre, so to speak. And I am thrilled to be accepted into their little groups. A lot of time I just wander through the threads and don't say much, but sometimes it is fun to chime in.
The only place I have found any of the books is online. I haven't seen any stores that carry them. Quite possibly some of the larger cities second hand bookshops would have a few, but I am 2 hours away from an actual city so that is not a practical way for me to shop. I would love to hook up with someone who shared the same interest and lived within an hour or so and do a day shopping trip. It would be worthwhile then. Meeting someone of the same heart and the hunting. It would be fun. Ah, the dreams we have.
Well, I thank you so much for popping by. Please do it again sometime.
hugs,
belva
I can't wait to see how you like Tepper! She gets a little precious with characters' names, but otherwise, she's wonderful! I wasn't carried away with the last couple of books; The Margarets may even be intended as a YA offering, but the older ones are gold.
Meanwhile, I haven't shelved *DD* yet (I pick it up and read a couple of pages now and then), but I'm slogging my way into Gravity's Rainbow, and that's taking up my free reading time. I don't know. I'm afraid I'm either too old or the book is - or some of both. About the time I'm about to decide to give up, I read some passage written so beautifully that I'm breathless. Anyway, an English major should have read *GR,* don't you think?
Stay cool! (You have a better chance at it than I do.) And stay in touch.
Peggy
Not that you asked, but Grass is one of my favorite Teppers; it's also one of her best books. (I also enjoy Fresco which isn't as successful objectively, but appeals to my sense of humor.) I hope you can make room on your shelf for her really soon. Back in the early 00's I was part of the SciFiVine online, and we had a FemSciFi thread. Eight or ten of us read feminist scifi together and discussed as we went. It was a memorable time for me. Some of the men thought that she occasionally was "rather shrill," but I love her logic that pushes assumptions about gender to their often absurd conclusions. I don't know whether you will think her dated, but I hope you'll try her.
In October I will finally be eligible for Medicare. YAY!!!!!
My favorite uncle settled in Manteo after WWII, and his family is still there. I do love that part of the state. ----- all in all though, I'd rather be in Chapel Hill!
Peggy
Oh Danielle, I am now so excited to have DD on its way that I'm kicking myself in amazement that I said No in the first place! I taught The Crucible for years and have done a tiny bit of reading history, so I'm up for a fiction that takes off in Salem.
Hope you're staying cool!
Peggy
Hi back, Danielle. I found your review quite helpful. I've already spent 3 months of book money in July, but I was about to shell out more $ for DD. Now I can wait. If it ever comes to me, that's great; if it doesn't, I won't regret it!
Peggy
(I reviewed The Rising Tide here a little earlier this year. I'm not sure whether those reviews tell more than you need to know before reading though.)
Are you a UKLG fan? I eventually loved Left Hand of Darkness, but I haven't been able to finish anything else of hers, and I really want to like her.....
I envy you your Persephone and Painted Clay. It's a bummer to live far from good bookstores. Thank Heaven for amazon and pbs!
Thanks! I like your Virago list, having just discovered E. H. Young, and reading them as fast as I can find them.
I'm delighted to welcome another NC woman to the VMC group! I spent a couple of wonderful years in Chapel Hill and know Nice Price Books well. (I also make Edward McKay a mandatory stop the two or three times a year that I get to Fayetteville.) We have some wonderful books in common including The Fallen Woman that I see you just added. I know that I started it but can't remember if I finished it, so I may not think that it's "wonderful." I've been hearing the call to buy *Deliverance Dane* so I'll check to see if you reviewed it. If not, how did you like it? Anyhow, well-met!
Peggy
Thanks for adding BannedBooksLibrary to your interesting libraries. Happy Reading!
Thank you for the invitation. I am new to LibraryThing, so I am not familiar with how everything works, yet. I also have to warn you that english is my second language, and that will probably show in how I articulate myself. But I love to read and also share and discuss books, so I would like to join. I recieved the book 2 days ago, and haven't had time to get started yet. I would like to know a bit about how we would go on about this. I must also say that Beloved is one of my best reads ever, even if it has been some time since I read it.
Thank you for starting the discussion on A Mercy! I have bought the book today and I am looking forward to reading it, especially now that we are a small group, which I find always stimulating.
Thanks for the invite I am already a member of the African american literature group. I have been adding to my collection but I don't know when I'll start A Mercy. I have books piled up on my TBR list and yet I still go
to the library and have to read & return in two weeks.I admit I'm addicted. I will try to stop by the group more often and drop in.

Nzingha
Thanks for the message! I haven't read A Mercy yet, but will definitely stop by at the group as soon as I have.
Thank you for telling me about the group. I got A Mercy through Early Reviewers and I'm thrilled. I was going to save it until February as a treat but I don't know if I can wait that long.
Thanks for letting me know, I'd love to discuss A Mercy. Toni Morrison is one of my favorite authors, so I'm excited about her new book.
