Tietoja minustaWell, I'm a second-year graduate student in Library Science (LS) at Chapel Hill with an undergrad degree in Spanish. I want to go into cataloging for now, but I can see myself going into a different discipline within LS in the future. I have mixed feelings towards digital libraries, but I'm willing to try it.

I love cats, books, knitting, cross-stitching, travelling, sleeping, cooking, baking, walking, earrings, skirts, collecting coins from different nations, organization (but not my room), color, fabric, texture.

I'm pretty laid back unless I have major assignments due. Then I'm crazy tense and terse.

Fairly minimalist, except for books. Although I think I'm going to have to make a decision not to buy many popular books unless I really love it or the author's works. I'll buy more of the academic books that I read for leisure.

I love plays on words.

I like to watch "The Office" and "Mad Men". Love horror, drama, and foreign movies. Have watched "Twilight" and "New Moon" and mocked both relentlessly with a friend. We burst out laughing when Edward appeared as a phantom in "New Moon", which I don't think was the director's intentions, and loved how annoying Jessica was.

Tietoja kirjastostaniI prefer historical fiction, history books, academic book (the kind where you need it for research on a paper. I read them during my leisure time), sociology books, fantasy, psychologically scary books, folklore, and YA. I kind of read a little bit of everything except for the really really trashy romance novels, sci-fi, bio- and autobiographies (so narcissistic! although I make rare exceptions), and probably some other genres that I can't name right now. I'm extremely hesitant about religious material. I prefer to read their impact on society and the implications on female-male relationships, etc. rather than "Is there a God, etc.?" kind pf philosophy. I'm just getting into graphic novels (my Lexington friend will be so psyched when I tell her this; I've held a snobbish attitude towards them). I love literature: mainly British, American, Russian, Western European, and some Latin American/Spanish. I want to delve more into Asian, Eastern European, African, and Australian lit. I won't read poetry on my own, but I will read it if there's someone to guide me through it.

I'm curious as to where the authors I read hail from. So up to the first three tags deal with the author's nationality and/or birthplace. "American, Illinois" means the author is American and born in Illinois. "British, boc, Zimbabwe" means the author is British, but "Born Out the Country" and then which country she was born in, "Zimbabwe". Also, country names are current. Thus, although Doris Lessing was born in the country of "Rhodesia" and has changed its name to "Zimbabwe" and this is what the author chooses to use in her tags. If a place is important enough in a book, then it is placed further down the tag list so as to not confuse it with the author's nationality/birthplace. Also, if an author changes his nationality, such as Neil Gaiman, I list his first nationality regardless of any subsequent changes.

Right now I'm in a fairy story/folklore phase. I blame all on Melissa Marr's fabulous book "Wicked Lovely". And I really can't wait until "Radiant Shadows" comes out in April of 2010, and the ARCs around December!!

Hi, there! You were asking about how to create an author page on LT. It's easy...an author page is automatically created as soon as you add a book by that person. The exceptions: if a person doesn't have any books where he/she is the first named author, then they won't get a page until a book is entered with the name first; the author system doesn't recognize the "other authors" listed yet. Also, unfortunately, a new author page isn't created when an author has the same name as another author; the system automatically combines works listed with the same name. Some people end up adding a middle initial or name to differentiate authors until an improved system arrives to separate them. As it stands now, you can separate the works on an author page to show distinct identities; to see what this looks like, look at the author page for William Wright, which holds four distinct authors! This, of course, messes up the Common Knowledge system, and its in the pipeline to be fixed. If you'll let me know the name of the author, I can help you more. :)
I never received it. Can you send it again.
I actually found a few copies lying around my house. Send me your e-mail address (mine is mail@christophertusa.com), and I’ll send you a signed copy.
Noticed you liked Out by Natsuo Kirino, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here, as well as a few other book-related sites. Thought you might like my book since it's also gritty, a bit violent, and a bit dark :) I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like (I'm out of physical copies at the moment). Here's a link to a summary (and a sample chapter) in case you'd like to read more about the novel before you commit.
