Tietoja kirjastostani Just what I own.
I know some folks use LT for wishlists, or for books they've read, but don't own. More power to them.. though when I browse through someone's else catalog, I can't help but think, "Cool. They've made an effort to have on hand all the books they love, or admire, or want around to flip to just that one passage- the one that makes them feel they have a place in this world." Anyway, this is not even a tenth of what I'd like to have on my shelves, but I'm ever-so-slowly working on it.

I'll go on then and add 'politics' tag to EH's books (hopefully) when appropriate.
And I know I'm a day late, but anyway:
Hauskaa Vappua! (Happy May Day!)

I think there's probably more interest in EH's library than we realize. Those that are interested might just not comment or blog about it right away... The way I see it, this is not something that gets a lot of attention all at once, but rather something that crops up in different contexts over time. Something with lasting power.
I've done less tagging than I planned, but I see that you (and nperrin?) have taken up the slack? For me, tagging is still fun, but it is slow going now, especially with fiction.
What do you think about 'politics' as a tag? Seems to me there's quite a lot of untagged books that would fit that description.

The profile page looks really good, too. Thanks for taking the time and making the effort!

I like the idea of Papa H making the announcement (with the poker game thing, too).
I've finished my duplicates, and christiguc has done her entries. Are we done with the book entries?

I may not be able to get the remaining 60 done until after work today, and then I'll look into your tagging style to help you both on that. Have you and Nina been following a certain format?
Christina

Oh, you should definitely make the announcement, as long as you remember to take credit for what you yourself have done. :) You and nperrin have been the driving forces of this effort.
When it is finished, I hope there will be a lot of interested Hemingway fans looking through his library. Do you think we should ask for help with the tagging or spotting errors in the data? Personally, I think tagging is going to get more time consuming from here on. There are a lot of books with no LoC subject matter or pre-existing LT tags.

By the way, this is part of a message I left christiguc (heh, maybe we should go back to posting in the thread): "On the subject of cataloging errors, I noticed that there are two different books numbered #5967 and #5967a respectively, which means that there are at least 7369 entries in the catalog, not 7368."

I too noticed that there were a number of books with a gay theme. I don't think it would be editorializing to tag them as such. You can see it anyway in the tag mirror. There's a book about superfluous hair removal and another about electroshock therapy that I would be more hesitant to tag.
If you decide to go with 'fishes', the next would be 'rocks'? :)

In EH's catalog, #5191 is Big Game Shooting by Phillipps-Wolley, Clive (MH)
#7246 is Big Game Shooting by Wolley, Clive Phillips (kwfv)
Should this be treated as a catalog error so that we do one entry (kwfv MH)? Or should I enter another copy of the book for MH?
I'm leaning towards thinking it's an accidental double-entry and have left it off for now. Let me know what you think.

Tagging:
No, you were right, there really weren't that many books that could be tagged children's fiction. Especially with the new 'historical fiction' tag in use. I removed the tag.
There is a lot of books relating to travel, isn't there?. Maybe there should be a separate 'travelogue' tag, though it might be difficult to determine which of the books fit the description.
BTW, I love the 'birds' tag. Simple and to the point. :)

About half of the books have tags now. I guess there is still a lot of fiction untagged, as well as books of nature/wildlife/animals or natural history. There seems to be a number of books that could be tagged 'historical fiction'. Is that too specific, considering the books will probably also be tagged as 'fiction' and '... literature'?
(As for my my English skills: there are large gaps there, trust me. But thanks anyway.)

It did give me some ideas. I'd like to make two changes: replace the tag 'aeronautics' with 'aviation' and the tag 'travel guide' with just 'travel'. From the specific to the general, so to speak.:) What do you think?
-Nina
Lähettänyt: Rullakartiina 8:29 am (EST) Mar 28, 2008
Frankly, I'd be happy if you 'claim' tags. Some nuances of meaning are lost to me as an ESL speaker. :)
I'll also be checking the original language data in all the entries. It is frequently missing even when LoC is used.

I think 'Catholicism' probably should have its own tag in EH's (a converted Catholic)library. 'Religion' as a top tag for all religious and spiritual books?
Sorry about the 'elephants' and 'mushrooms'. I couldn't resist, was feeling a bit whimsical...
'Wildlife', 'nature' and 'animals' all sound good to me. There's also the LoC subject 'zoology', but that might be too specific.
"I still have nature/natural history, marine biology, oceanography, communism, pulp fiction, Soviet Union in mind." These are great.

About tagging: I've been using the 'memoir' tag as you suggested. There's still some personal narratives where it does not fit. 'Military history' might be a useful tag, though there would be serious overlap with the different 'war' tags. I'd rather tag books with no tags than the ones that already have one or more. And speaking of un-tagged books: any suggestions as to how the spiritual/religious books could be tagged?
-Nina
Lähettänyt: Rullakartiina 3:23 am (EST) Mar 25, 2008
Yep, that's me tagging...feel free to change them or leave me a message, if you notice mistakes. Question: would the 'memoir' tag be appropriate for the books that are personal narratives? And BTW, 'exploration' = great tag!

I'll get to work on the 3901 - 4000.
Thanks for the tagging compliment.:) I wish I could do more, but as I'm not that familiar with his books, tagging by LoC subject (when it's included) is about as much as I can do.

Those sorts of pages are never finished! The minute you think you're done, someone comes along with a brand-new spelling of a name.
By the way, I noticed there was a suggested combination of "Igor and Boris" (http://www.librarything.com/author/strou...). The titles don't seem to be the same as any of the ones under "Arkady and Boris", but a) my French ain't all that good, and b) sometimes titles change completely when translated! Do you know if these are really Arkady & Boris?

The picture that shows up for me on Kelly Link's page has a large frame around it and the text "Click here for hi-res download" below it. Did you only get permission from the author to use only this version, or can we replace it with the hi-res version? (Or at least remove the frame and the text?)

The Pulitzer thing is nice, isn't it? I've been pleasantly surprised at how readily I've been getting permissions from authors and organizations.
By the way, I've been intending to tell you that I've been enjoying your clever comments when you flag pictures. Much more interesting that the usual "need permission"!
