WE'RE ENGAGED! My boyfriend proposed on Christmas Eve! He tucked the certification for the diamond into an old edition of Gone With The Wind, in the part where Rhett proposes to Scarlett, then got down on one knee and asked me. Perfect. :)

I love to read (obviously). My job as a bookseller at one of the major bookstore chains helps me keep up with my book collection. I love Nebraska, my home, although I doubt you'll find me a typical (*ahem* conservative) Nebraskan. I'm very close to my family, and I love living with my fiancé. I am pretty much obsessed with Gone with the Wind, both the book and the film, and anything and everything Disney. Je parle le français aussi.

Tietoja kirjastostaniI've recently discovered the fantasy genre; I've always loved kid/teen fantasy (i.e. Harry Potter), but now I'm getting into Robert Jordan, Terry Goodkind, George R. R. Martin, etc. But I still have a soft spot for epic romances, like GWTW and the the Outlander series.

I put a piece of myself into every book I read, so I generally have to keep them. As of now, I remember when and where I got each book, but this system will help in case that should ever change. :) My collection ranges from books from my childhood, to books from my college courses, to books I've collected since I started working at the bookstore. Everything in "Your Library" is actually physically in my apartment. Yes, it's a lot, and I desperately need more shelves.

My grandmother is 92 and is starting to clean out some things, and that book was one she had. She was actually standing on Peachtree St. when the GWTW stars drove to the Loew's theater for the premier. She said she was so close to Clark Gable, she could have touched him! She didn't see the premier, of course, just the excitement on the outside. That's why she had the book. It's not an old book, so I'm sure you could find it somewhere!

Jenny: I just got around to reading your blogs about Dave's proposal. (So cool! I LOVE GWTW!)) Somehow I had missed that you were a fellow Nebraskan. Without knowing which bookstore you work in, I can guess I've probably been there - I haunt them all. I live out west (70 miles north of North Platte) but I have lots of reasons to go to Lincoln and Omaha, and do so frequently.

In your Elantris review, you mentioned stand-alones are unusual for this genre - very true. If you haven't read Guy Gavriel Kay yet, nearly all of his fantasies are stand-alone novels, and very very good.

We do have a bit in common, huh? East and Inkheart are my most favorites outta' my entire library! =) Right now I'm reading a bunch of boring stuff for school (like Physics for Dummies, etc. lol) but I went ahead and ordered the Gone With the Wind from my library that ya mentioned :). I'll get back with ya once I've finished it, let ya know if its as good as riding on a magical polar bear or having a father that can bring books alive :D.
I'm gonna have a look around your library, its huge compared to mine! Seeing we have many books in common there must be titles lurking in there screaming out my name! Well, our name, but whatever! lol I'll take it as a personal invitation anyhow =8-D.

Yes, we do have a lot in common! I'm also really into GWTW, it was the first romantic book I ever read when I was 12 and became obsessed with it and read it 12 times in the course of 2 years! I re-read it again last year, and it has held up over time. Now that I'm much older and worldly, I still loved it!

I just read your review of Sarah Dessen's novel, Lock and Key, and wanted to encourage you to give The Truth About Forever and Just Listen a chance. The Truth About Forever is my personal favorite, but I know quite a few people consider Just Listen to be her best. I think her primary characters in each, Macy and Annabel, respectively, are less likely to take things lying down. I hope you enjoy them!

Hello, I see that you are reading Goodkind's "Stone of Tears"....Are you enjoying this series?? I absolutely loved it....its been a few years since I've read them...I am waiting for the last book to come out in paperback in the fall, then I'll read them all over again....Have you read Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series?? That's pretty good as well...a friend got me into Jordan, and I ended up liking him, but I like Goodkind better...well, happy reading...

I too love Gone with the Wind. Clark Gable is my favorite actor, in fact - they just don't make them like him anymore, in my opinion!

Just finished the sequel and wow. Surprisingly, I -really- liked it. The characters stayed true to their characters... and grew while retaining their charm! (A great sign of a good book for me.) I was antagonistically looking for underdeveloped plotholes and things that just don't match up... and I was disappointed! Not one loose end (well, except the ending). I recommend it! Come to find out, Ripley was chosen by the Margaret Mitchell estate to write it! Fine choice on their part. :)

I haven't read Inkheart, but a few of my students really liked it. :) Maybe I'll check it out soon! (And you should certainly read Shannon Hale! You won't regret it.)

j'ai beaucoup aimé le livre, l'ai relu et vais le relire encore... Moins aimé le film, mais c'est toujours comme ça quand le roman est bon, non?

Jenny, I can't help but chuckle at both your library and the description of yourself in your profile. God help us book-sluts. I am one too. Its a disease,but a lovely one. And as much of a savant as I used to be with finding any of my books anywhere in my house, at 2600, it's gotten to be too much. So, kudos to librarything, which has enabled me to see just how many duplicates I already have, and the exquisite joy of discovering I already own a work that I'd been pining for!!! I am a wannabe writer, but don't have the advantage having mastered a second language. I'm pained with jealousy over your description of your job. I bet they give you freebies!!! At least you appreciate them. As a writer, you ought to consider coming to Alaska for the Kachemak Bay Writers' Conference this June. Amy Tan is the keynote speaker this year. Hi Jenny! You are the only other person on this whole site who owns "A Different Plain: Contemporary Nebraska Fiction Writers." Three cheers for that! Right now, I live in Massachusetts, but I'm planning to find a library job in Nebraska once I finish library school (in December). So where should I live? How are you finding [The Historian]? I enjoyed it, but found it a bit confusing at times with all the first person dialogues going on. But the Baltic and Ottoman histories were very interesting.

IF you're going to try Buk, will it be fiction or poetry? His books are SO very large, especially for poetry books, that I usually recommend Play the Piano Drunk Like a Percussion Instrument until the Fingers Begin to Bleed a Bit because it's a rather smaller book and I think one of his better ones.... If you want to message me your address, I could send you a copy to borrow. (However, you don't really strike me as someone who will just flat out love Buk, although I could be wrong.)

I also know the feeling of working in a bookstore and just watching your mental shopping list grow and grow as your paycheck gets smaller and smaller. Noticed we share a few things, including some of my favorites. "One Hundred Years of Solitude" and P.G. Wodehouse stood out. I'd like to hear what you thought of either. Happy cataloging.
