RyhmätLibrarians who LibraryThing, Read YA Lit, SLIS-Indy
Tietoja minustaHi! I love books! I have always wanted to be a children's librarian. I am currently in the SLIS program at IUPUI. I am also a teen and outreach librarian. I am reading a lot of YA fiction (something I haven't done since I was a teen). Now that I'm in school I don't have much time to read but I do read as much as possible and keep a list for when I graduate! I love children's picture books and am an avid collector, especially books about or with goats (my other passion).
Tietoja kirjastostaniI began this library several years ago to try to document all the books I own. Life became busy and I haven't thought about this tool until I was given a class assignment. I own most of the books in my LibraryThing, though I have added a few that I have read but don't own. Many of the titles listed are books I read for undergrad--some I enjoyed, others I didn't. As you can probably tell by the number of entries my favorite authors are William Faulkner & Jane Austen. I know they are very different but I had a great professor who taught me how to appreciate and love the literature of both authors.
*My profile picture is of Earlham College's Carpenter Hall where I discussed the majority of my Librarything books.*

There are so many graphic novels I could recommend! I have really enjoyed the novels dealing with specific topics or issues. Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi (autobiographical, she writes about growing up in Iran/Islamic revolution), Maus by Art Spiegelman (Holocaust), A.D. New Orleans After the Deluge by Josh Neufeld (Hurricane Katrina). One graphic novel series that I LOVE - I think they're great for all ages :) - is the Owly series. (http://www.andyrunton.com/comics.html) Too cute.
I really enjoyed Running With Scissors (didn't like the movie as well). I would like to read more of his books. As for the Harry Potter series, I hope you'll give it a try! I cannot compare it to the Twilight series (haven't read any of those yet). But I love the way these books pulled me in - I got (still am) ridiculously attached to characters and couldn't stand waiting to find out what would happen next. I don't know how many times I've read each of them... I may have to check out Meyer's books!

I think your goat book obsession is funny! I had a co-tacher in Germany who had a thing for Moose. I had no idea there were so many moose books for kids:-)
I think you're doing an excellent job of listing all of the books in your personal collection. I can't imagine trying to complete this task!
Good luck with your coursework.

I noticed that we share a few Kurt Vonnegut books. I am a huge fan of his. Have you read his new one, Look at the Birdie? I definitely want to check that out. I was also looking through your Literature tagged books. Admittedly, I am behind on a lot of these - I need more time to read!! You’re so lucky to have had a professor that had you read such wonderful titles. And you also have some other books listed that I would love to read, such as The Memory Keeper’s Daughter and The Poisonwood Bible. I started The Poisonwood Bible, but school crept in. I LOVED Animal Vegetable Miracle though. I noticed you’re a teen and outreach librarian. How long have you been doing this? For someone who hasn’t read a lot of YA fiction (like myself), what would you recommend?
I enjoyed looking at your profile!
