I'm quite honored that you've found my library so interesting. It used to be much larger
and I am forever regretting that 'purge'.
I'm familiar with the painting you posted but cannot recall the artist. It brings to mind a book that you might be
interested in a book titled " Idols of Perversity - Fantasies of the Feminine in Fin-de-Siecle Culture"
by Bram Dijkstra.
I live in the 'sticks' in the central valley of California, known for garlic, almonds, olives, wine. We just
moved here from the intensity of NYC. It's a nice change though - and thank goodness for LT, to keep
me connected with other book people.
I tried to check out your garden blog but it didn't connect. Is it still alive? I'd love to see your garden.
It's another favourite thing of mine.
Looking forward to browsing through your library and talking with you.

Is that unusual for the time of year? Or is it late spring early summer rain?
I know I seem a bit caught up with the weather, but waterwise, eventhough we have had rain in the garden and in the water catchments in the hills we only have 68 weeks of water left in Canberra. Not to worry, we're eternally positive on this side of the world.
Cheers

Funnily enough, I am reading The Secret River by Kate Grenville at the moment, inspired by researching her ancestors experiences on The Thames and the Hawkesbury River. While it wasn't The Hawkesbury that has been the source of the major flood (It was an hour further north and was mainly The Hunter River near Maitland) I understand there has been a small amount of flooding there. My convict ancestors from the first fleet and second fleet would have definitely experienced flooding on the Hawkesbury River near an early farming community called Windsor (now a suburb of Sydney).
The Secret River has won the 2006 Commonwealth Writers' Prize, the Christina Stead Prize for Fiction at the 2006 NSW Premier's Literary Awards, and Book of the Year at the Australian Book Industry Awards 2006. It was longlisted for the 2006 Man Booker Prize and shortlisted for the Victorian Premier's Literary Award for fiction. So I am expecting it to be a good read.
Cheers

Thanks for your concern, but the worst is about 500km north from us. North of Sydney around Newcastle.
It is a bit wild and windy outside and there was snow about 45km away where my horse is (that is a bit unusual). But the main thing is, its RAINING! Even if it is sideways.
Check out utube for some amazing scenes of a 3 story coaltanker beaching near Newcastle and waves going over the top. Nature is an awesome thing.

Thanks for the message.
Yep, we are hoping the drought is on the way out. We have received tantalising drops of rain overnight...however, more stringent water restrictions still loom if we dont get more rain.
Be grateful if you can send some over from your side of the world. :-)
Cheers

I've just joined LT and have found that I am addicted.
I notice that we only share 2 Tracy Chevalier novels, however, i had a look at your catalog and am inspired to read some of those in your collection.
Your garden blog is loverly. You really live in a loverly place. I can sometimes manage to grow some of the same plants in my cottage garden although i'm on the otherside of the world and we are in the grip of a nasty drought.
Anyway, happy reading and gardening.
