Tietoja minusta I am a formerly voracious reader who has become a stay-at-home mother of a toddler and therefore has much less time for reading adult books although I do read aloud to the daughter several times a day. I have a doctorate in cognitive psychology and am interested in how children learn, in particular how they learn math and science. Naturally, with a toddler learning to talk, I'm also suddenly a lot more interested in language acquisition as well.

Tietoja kirjastostani This is my daughter's library. She's two-and-a-half so it's mostly picture books and board books but I am certain that that will change over time. Initially I only catalogued the books she owns, not the 30-40 books/week we take out of the library, but we've recently changed our mind about that and started cataloguing library reads as well because there are so many that we want to remember to revisit. She still enjoys rhyming stories but we do a lot of text based ones as well. We tend to avoid purchasing books that drive us batty to read aloud over and over and over again although some of those are certainly daughter favorites that get checked out of the library more than once. Her library at home is an eclectic mix of books she likes that we can stand

Favorite illustrators include Steve Jenkins, Sylvia Long, Meilo So, Betsy Lewin, Denise Fleming and Mary Azarian.

Hi,

I see you own two of my picture books (Who Hops? and Who Hoots?) so I hope you don't mind
me letting you know I have a a new middle grade novel coming out called
The Curse of Addy McMahon (Greenwillow, April 22)
and to celebrate, I'm having a launch party at
Bank Street Bookstore (112th St & B''way, NYC).
Can you come? If not, and you're interested in a signed copy
email them at books@bankstreet.edu or call the store at
212.678.1654 and pre-order a copy and I'll sign
it when I go there for the party.

Thanks, Katie Davis
I haven't really delved into Great Books for Boys. I went through and highlighted in it the books that are in my LT catalog (then went to tag them), but I haven't yet used the book to get new recommendations. I was really surprised about how many girl-centric stories there are in it; as far as that goes, I don't think this would be as good for boys as Great Books for Girls is for girls. I just ordered a used copy of Valerie & Walter's Best Books for Children (it was a wish list item) - it's "like new," so I'm hoping I get the 2nd edition.

As for Silvey's book, I can't recall whether I included the books in the back or not. I'll have to pull it off the shelf to see what I marked.

Currently, I'm slowly working my way through the NEA 100 list. The picture books are read-alouds for my daughter, but I'm also reading the children's/YA chapter books myself. I haven't had the energy to review them, but at least I've been rating so I'll know in the future whether they're worth checking out (or buying).
Hi Marie -

I went and combined our tags for Great Books for Babies and Toddlers. You can combine any tags by replacing XXX with the tag name, putting + for the spaces, so I did http://www.librarything.com/combinetags_.... I hope no one uncombines them since they refer to the same book.

I got so many good ideas from that book. Now we've moved on to the book lists for kids (esp. girls) ages 2+ or 3+, but I'm limited in what I can get from those because they tend to go through preteen and teen years - although, I've been known to read older children's and young adult fiction. ;) They show up on my books about books tag.

I also get a lot of ideas from blogs. On my left blog sidebar are a few links to bloggers who write about children's books often. Jenny of Wildwood Cottage has a daughter between the ages of mine and yours, and she has so many wonderful suggestions.

I really need to start writing reviews again. I was doing so well for a couple weeks then fell off the wagon when life got too stressful, but I'm hoping I'll be able to start again soon.

Cheers,
Suzanne
I just wanted to say I've enjoyed so much browsing your daughter's library. My daughter is probably a year older, I'd guess. Mostly she likes to be read longer picture books these days, but we still keep out her board books - Jamberry has to have the catchiest rhyme of them all. Sylvia Long is fantastic - her Mother Goose is my favorite. You write such good comments; would you consider putting some in the review field?
