Saw your alias on a post in the Fantasy Fans group, and had to check out your profile. Mary Stewart's Airs Above the Ground which we seem to share, is one of my favorites. And then I thought oh my -- another collector, and a horse lover, too :-) My husband acquired (me, of course) along with 20 boxes of books (all neatly shelved upon moving in) and 7 saddles (stored where it's dry, thank you very much!) when he married me last August. He's still reeling from the fact that it's possible to double shelve books so that not all of them show. I guess he'll get over it! No dressage yet for me, as I'm a bit too far for easy traveling to the closest available trainer, but I love to watch the classes when we get to a show -- so elegant.

I really liked Across the Nightengale Floor too, but the series does sort of go into decline after that book. I started the third book a while ago but never finished. However, now that the fourth book is out, I plan to re-read the whole series.

I didn't watch Firefly until after it came out on dvd, but my understanding is that Fox showed the episodes out of order and in the short run changed the airing day and time more than once. Those two factors combined are enough to kill any show and such a shame too.

I've had the good fortune to attend several JC events and at the most recent one in June she even commented on remembering me! It probably helps that due to being an utter fan girl I bombard the poor woman with questions every time. However I don't think that quite qualifies as being able to say I know her personally either.

This is not a permanent poition (unless a lot of things change, like gas going up to $8 a gallon, and I can't afford to drive back to Texas..). I'm slated to be here until March or April sometime. The contract could end tomorrow, or be extended a year. It's a funny business tha way. And, although Delaware is really a lovely place (trees that grow straight up -- Texans just don't understand!), my wife (whom I love more than salt) isn't about to move away from her parents vicinity. They're really old -- so old that the got to beta-test dirt.

Move in, take out my mark, and then fade into the darkness??? That's my job, ma'am. It's what I do. He moves on....

I was originally at a place in Exton in early July. I think it was dealing with a sometimes 2-hour commute while trying to get a grip on pneumonia (or rather, shake myself free of the grip pneumonia had on me) that made me decide to trade time for money, and move (much) closer to the job.

This is my 3rd week at Homewood. The neighbor haven't complained about my guitar playing, so I must be keeping quiet!

If you see me out and about somewhere, don't be a stranger. I am easily recognized by the 3x5 index card that reads 'WholeHouseLibrary' that sticks out of either my shirt pocket, or the back left pocket of my pants. There! That's your only clue.

Wow! Hi there dressagegrrrl!! I'm in the north end of Wllmington. It's a real dive of a place called the Homewood Suites. (tic) It's really a NICE place!!! I'm one traffic light south of B&N. So far, I'm only familiar with the area east of 202 and as far south as I-95 -- I'm working over in a building in Belleview State Park. So far, I've found only one place that claims to sell books, but haven't been in it yet.

So, do you actually ~do~ dressage? Years ago, I worked with a woman (who was about your age then), and she was ~REALLY~ into it -- practiced every weekend... Me, I'm not what you'd call a 'Pet Person'.

I'm planning on going to see the 'Tut' exhibit at the FI this weekend. I promised my wife that I'd conserve money by frequenting museums and movie theaters more than I would bookstores. She knows me too well!

I loved your comparison of Firefly as a live action Cowboy Bebop on the GD the other day. Two shows that I adore, but had never thought of in that light before.

I loved watching your videos, I think you look awsome! My sister Pam showed me a video from a show she did and one of the competitors has a very bad habit of getting a little excited when his horse does well and slaps him on the neck and says "Well done! Good boy!" He kinda doesn't place well in the standings consequently ;-)

I get sick quite often, nothing serious, just chronic and frustrating. Thank goodness for LT, it cheers me up tremendously, especially the GD.

(re: [Helm]) -- Yes, I've read it three times. I think my favorites are still [Jumper] and [Blind Waves]. I do like [Helm]'s theme of disseminating power, which seems relatively rare in fantasy.

Hi! I was just visiting Morphidae's profile and saw your comment about your new horse. That's awful!! I'm so sorry dressagegrrrl, I can't imagine how frustrated and disappointed you must be feeling. I hope you're able to find another great dressage horse soon.

Sorry I haven't replied to your friendly comment sooner, I've been really sick and haven't spent much time on LT (or the computer for that matter) at all lately.

I really hope you can find another horse, I know my sister had a hard time finding her horse, but he was definitely worth the wait.

Hi Kristy,

I've been meaning to drop you a note for awhile. My sister rides too and after dabbling in dressage (she rode mainly hunter jumper for many years) she has now committed herself to dressage completely. I sent her that video we discussed in the GD and she loved it. She has two horses that she competes with, Spryte and Handsome Jack, she lives in Northern California and with Jack needs just one more qualifying score to qualify for the United States Dressage Federation Championships - needless to say, she's very excited :-)

I enjoy reading your notes with your upbeat, positive outlook, you remind me very much of my sister.

Yes! I ride too. I've ridden western and english for a long time, but am only just learning dressage. Others at the barn know much more than I do about dressage -- even some of the horses. :)

It probably is true that there are so many threads out there that Jordan won't be able to wrap them all up. At any rate, he won't be able to do it and satisfy everybody. As for his illness, he's gotten a LOT better. Like to the point where the levels are almost back to completely normal. So let's just hope he's able to get well and perhaps complete the 13th book.

I also love Martin. I didn't really enjoy Crows all that much with the exception of the evolution of Jaime and watching Cersei going batty. But, for the most part, Crows didn't focus on the characters I've really grown to like. I can't wait to see what Tyrion, Jon, and a couple of the others are doing. However, Martin also needs to realize he's only got two more after Dragons and if he doesn't start wrapping certain things up, he at least needs to be cognizant of not starting any new subplots that can't be left incomplete by the end of book 7.

Unfortunately, since saying and missing his deadline for the end of 06 for Dragons, Martin won't give any real updates on the progress for the book. One very potentially neat thing is the announcement of the planning for a mini-series for Game of Thrones by HBO. I'll likely have to wait and download it, since I don't have HBO, but they have a decent chance of doing justice to the book, as they've done an exvellent job (so I've heard) with the Sopranos and I loved Deadwood.

howdy!!

I saw your comments on a thread over in the fantasy group and thought I'd offer up a suggestion re: Robert Jordan. I've done much the same as you in making it through book 7, then started hearing the complaints about ponderous and lengthy books that don't move very well. So I stopped, pretty much waiting for the last book to be on its way before I pick up the series again. However, one way I've "discovered" to get through the problem of having so much to read to get to the end is to start listening to the unabridged audiobooks. Of course, the problem of boredom and hair pulling may still happen once I get to book 8 (which, oddly enough, is the only book audible.com doesn't have), but I'm willing to give it a chance. I just listen to a bit every day while out walking or working out. And, if I'm feeling especially geeky, I'll read along with the audiobook going.

HEHE, I have thought about dressage. I have always been impressed with that kind of riding dicipline and Sassy has a beautiful extended trot from the ground. Now when I am on her....well thats a different story.

Oh...and I do enjoy David Sedaris. I haven't read the Santaland book, nor have I ever had the chance to hear him speak (in person or on radio). I wonder if he'll be on local NPR here anytime soon. I'll have to check.

Ok. Time for my confession. This catalogue actually belongs to my husband and I. That's why it is so diverse. The Joel Rosenberg books you mentioned are actually his and I've never read them. *blush* But I'll put them in my TBR pile and get back to you. My husband is a chef (hence some of the odder cooking stuff) and he loves scifi/fantasy and humor (see Dragonlance novels and Pratchett). Recently, he's taken to reading philosophy while I've been preoccupied with religious history (primarily catholic).

Maybe one day, when I'm terribly motivated I'll actually go through and tag "his" or "hers". We still have a couple of shelves of material to add, but the bulk of it is in.

Oh. Ok. That is a little weird. :D But it's good of you to support a fellow Michigan"ian" (?). I recently discovered that Tim Lucas is a Cincinnatian - it doesn't make his books any better, but I felt compelled to buy one anyway.

I don't know that books 2 or 3 get any less dark...maybe a little bit less. Hmmm...I'd have to think about it. I enjoyed the first 3. With the 4th one, she switches main characters and it was good, but I didn't find the new main character to be as sympathetic. What I liked about the stories was the way the countries, landscapes, religions and traits of the people were reminiscent of europe - but not so much. A "what if" twist.

Ahh...I had to flip through your catalogue real fast since we have 43 books in common...I think that list may be a bit longer actually, I don't know how often it updates. But I have read much in common with you. Are you still adding in books? From your profile, it sounds like you have a few more. :D
