What a sad story! I have one similar to that as well.
Tizzy, my black chihuahua was abused. I got her when she was 6 weeks old and she weighed about the same as Bones when you got him. She had already been away from her mama from two weeks. The people who had her locked her in a bathroom didn't feed or water her and kept two bigger dogs in there with her that bit her constantly. My friend told me about her (it was his brothers dog) and said he couldn't stand the way she was being treated because she was so little and sweet. So he waited til' his brother left and went and kidnapped her and brought Tizzy to me. When I got her she was bloated from worms, covered in bite marks, her hair was falling out, and she was about ready to loose one of her eyes.
I brought her to the vet the next day and she didn't give me too much hope and just said make her comfortable. She turns 5 in September!!! She's my little girl and I'm sure you know what I mean because you've been through the same things with Bones. It makes your relationships so much closer.
Hi, Jill; Hi, Carrie,

I had the pleasure this morning of logging onto LibraryThing and having messages from each of you. Please forgive my replying with one message; at the end I see I need also apologize for my prolixity. It was also an interesting coincidence. On my way through my usual internet stops before getting to LibraryThing I found this article at Science Daily; walking has real benefits for older folk and probably for all of us.

I don't want to get too formal about my routine. Yesterday I walked after 5 p.m., and tomorrow I expect to walk around 10 a.m. I've had some fast days and some slow days. Twice because of my knee my walk has taken about 40 minutes; twice, just cuz, my walk has taken under 30 minutes.

I always wear sandals. When I started walking this time I wore my going-to-town sandals with orthotics in them. I found some Nike shoes in new condition in a pile of stuff; I had probably got them at a deep discount. I tried them; it was the first time in over a year that I had worn shoes; I developed a huge blister on my left heel. I went back to sandals for two weeks then started again with the shoes. Along the way I picked up some Nike Straprunners, a running sandal. I wore those for the first time yesterday; they were so light and airy, I couldn't go slowly.

The doctor told me that exercising while my knee hurts does not do additional damage. I can manage at an amble.

When I am regularly under thirty minutes I expect I will add a little. The simplest would be to go a little downhill before I go uphill. Checking the rest of the condominium acreage (I'm on the board of directors) would take another five minutes.

So I think I'll give the google regimen a pass.

Carrie, I have done things like take stairs instead of the elevator and walked the last quarter mile to work. I think it is all good.

Jill, thank you for the suggestion even though I am going my own way. I hope you are finding your way.

Best wishes,

Robert
