DO you know why some books get a little green thing on the right side in the libraries, and some get yellow or orange? Let me know, if you will, I am new here.

I dispute that most of the struggles of the women are of their own making. One of the main points Irina Ratushinskaya makes in writing her labor camp memoir is that the women of the Small Zone would have struggled more had they relented to their wardens and the KGB. They actually succeeded in improving their SCHIZO conditions compared to those endured by the general prison population. As an added bonus, they managed to expose the usefully inept and deceitful practices used by many of those wardens and KGB agents, thus damaging some careers. It is also likely that her well-publicized struggles were the cause of her early release. Yes, her inner life is ultimately a most encouraging testament to humanity in general. It gives her the strength to suffer the cold, hunger & periodical violence. By the time she hits the Small Zone she is beyond succumbing to KGB mind games, which come across as mildly humorous & pathetic.
