Tietoja minusta I'm a dork. And not just one of these new "it's really cool to be a geek" dorks either; I've been hardcore dorking it for over 25 years. I started out as a sci-fi/fantasy/comic book fan at an early age, and I never looked back. I transitioned into advanced dorkdom in high school by joining the theatre group and becoming a metalhead. In adulthood, I’ve added a dash of geekiness by becoming an IT professional, which adds variety but does not in any way diminish my overall dorkitude. Add to all of this that I’m a pagan, and…… well, I’m sure you can see where this is all going. However, I am capable of having conversations about all sorts of topics; just be prepared for me to throw the occasional dork reference from time to time.

I used to have interesting jobs (animal cruelty investigation, book store troll, theatre technician, and carpenter). Now I sit in the grey square of doom (my cube) and stare at a computer screen all day. Somehow it’s just not the same. However, I can buy groceries now and I don’t have to sleep outside (unless I really want to).

I’m also an Aspie (Asperger's Syndrome, for those who don't know). I’ve been diagnosed for about a year, and the world makes a lot more sense now. I still struggle, but at least I know why.

Oh, I'm also in a George Pelacanos book - page 158 of the mass market edition of Drama City.

"A truly great book should be read in youth, again in maturity and once more in old age, as a fine building should be seen by morning light, at noon and by moonlight."
-Robertson Davies

Tietoja kirjastostani I read around 15-20 books per month on average (damn that 9th grade speed reading course), and I try to keep track and post book thoughts on my blog. I’m big into speculative fiction (not including paranormal romance which I wish they would shelve where it belongs), but I also read a lot of other stuff as well; history, anything animal related, fiction, mysteries, memoirs, biographies... whatever catches my interest.

Tag notes:

"read but not owned" - Books I've previously read but do not currently own; however, I intend to purchase these items in the near future.

"sentimental favorite" - Books not in line with my current taste, but that I recall fondly from my past.

"PBS" - Books listed on PaperBackSwap

I commend you for the work you put in!! THat must have been a very rewarding and frustrating job at the same time. (When I think of your story I think about the ASPCA show on Animal Planet). I guess non-profit probably wouldn't pay too much...
I just read your comment on the 'Oprah and puppy mills' chat. I'm like you I've vounteered at a local shelter and have seen the horrible things people can do to animals.....so I just couldn't bring myself to watch the horrible footage on TV. (I'm sure they played it up and showed the most horrible footage for those people who aren't aware of the atrocities). So you said you've worked in shelters? I find that interesting....big city, small town? How long have you done it?
Thanks for adding me as an interesting library - I'm flattered. It's always nice to make the acquaintance of another mystery lover.

LisaLynne
You're 100 pages more into a Dickens than you were before...keep up the good work!
Hi, just so you know, my "Dickens in 2008" quest has been realized! I just finished Nicholas Nickleby - I feel so accomplished. Thanks for the cheering on!
Thank you very much for adding me to the "interesting libraries"! I think after I enter all my books, I'll discover we share quite a few!

- a fellow geek in a gray cube :P
I couldn't resist that comment, having seen Arctic's library.
I just wanted to say hi and welcome to the LTer's with dogs group. I liked the photo of your three dogs and they look like they get on well together. I noticed on your photo of them that you have a couple of piles of books on the table and wanted to ask if one of them (underneath the orange book) was The Glass books of the Dream Eaters by GW Dahlquist. I've just read that one and really enjoyed it.

When I got here though, your profile made me laugh. As someone who got called weirdo and alien at school because I liked reading, felt comfortable being my own person and have different coloured eyes I can appreciate someone who accepts their own geekiness and isn't ashamed to admit it.

I do need to know though, what's a bookstore troll?

See you in the group, Jody
Thanks, you too! (Actually I've read A Christmas Carol, but that was for school and about 20 years ago. Time to start over.)
Nick,

While perusing the "Where do you live?" thread in TGD, I noticed that you seem to be the closest Dragon to me (in Winchester, VA). Hello, there, neighbor!

-Danny
