I finished it last week and thought it wasn't too bad. I think if I was reading it for a historical point of view I might not find it useful, however it you look at the social aspects then it's good. The bit I enjoyed most was reading about people I already knew - Rupert Brooks, Woolf etc etc.
Can't say I would rave about it and I think it's a strange choice for a book group read, it'll be interesting to see what the others make of it when we meet in June.

This is quite exciting, two letters to America and one to France. I hope you like it when it arrives.

I just read your review of Dreamers Of The Day by Mary Doria Russell. I too first read her books The Sparrow and Children of God and Loved every single word of each. I have to admit that I found A Thread Of Grace a bit dry, and so thought I would look at some reviews before picking it up.
I see that we have a number of books in common and so I believe that your opinion is a good one for me !
Did you know that her next book is going to be a western? She says she wants to try every genre. I am wondering if she did not happen to find her real niche with her first book? I do hope she returns to that someday, as I agree with you that her writing is worth reading, whatever the subject.
Thanks for the helpful review ..

I am pleasantly surprised at seeing the variety of books we share. Finally, another lover of Angela Thirkell! I added your library to my list of interesting ones, and I will get back to peruse through it later, when I have more time.
Paola :-))
P.S. I love the Betsy Tacy books!

Your name intrigues me. I read all of the Betsy-Tacy-Tib stories by Maud Hart Lovelace when I was young, & my 2 older daughters, Bonnie & Betsy read them & loved them, too. In the early 1950's I worked on a bookmobile & I remember how popular those books were. I wish I still had some copies. Actually I bought few books, in my younger days I read exclusivly from the library.
We seem to share a number of books in common, though your collection out-numbers mine by quite a bit. Where do you put them all?
I see we have Alice thomas Ellis in common. I discovered her from reading A COMMON READER, which, alas seemes to have gone out of business due to bankrupcy. Too bad, tho they were a bit expensive. I got some great ideas from them tho, & would pick up the books at the library where I worked. (I am retired now.) Hope to hear from you, we seem to have a lot in common.
