Modern favourites are The Unconsoled by Ishiguro, Perfume by Suskind, Lolita by Nabokov.

Wow we have a lot of books and interests in common. Thanks for listing me. I see you have American Psycho. I would be interested in your opinion on that one. I have steadfastly resisted reading it but perhaps I should give in. I have got to stop looking at people's libraries for the same reason you suggest. I spend every cent of my spare money on books. Since the advent of the internet I have had to add ten new bookshelves and they are overflowing. Cheers.
