Tuesday at noon would be fine. Can you meet me at the Security desk in Place Ville Marie (the entrance is on University I think). Right by the elevators going to the 20th floor in 1 Place Ville Marie. I will be the one holding the book :) That works out great. I can scoot down to give you the book and then just head off to my meeting (I have a 12:15 meeting). Hope this is okay. Thanks.

I hope you are well. I was on the HC site the other day and noticed that they only have two books this month! I did not find all that many books on this site this time around (sigh!).
I live in Verdun and work at PVM regular business hours. Just let me know if its easier for you to meet me downtown or closer to Verdun and when. The only night I am really committed to something is Thursday night, or we can meet at PVM during lunchtime on Thursday if you would like. Just let me know. Thanks.

No, I haven't read anything else by Elizabeth Gilbert (although I have a couple of her other books on my wishlist!). I had to put her on my list of favorite authors because Eat, Pray, Love had such a profound impact on my life, and I thought it was so well-written. Subsequently, I've seen her interviewed in different places, been to her website, and it seems like she's such an awesome person. Enjoy the book! I'm planning to re-read it again before the end of this year.

so you could try that. Apparently, the website is not working properly and they are planning on launching a new one soon. In the meantime, I have been sending my reviews to this person, but this person is only to send reviews to. Hope this helps.
Thank you for the book offer, unfortunately, its not really what I read. However, if we can exchange any other future books that would be great.
I finally heard from some of the publicists on Shelf-Awareness and I am getting two books (YEAH!). All hope is not lost.
I still have your book so let me know when you would like to get it. Thanks alot.

I have also noticed that there have been a few rough patches on the forum board on this site lately - I find book people can be weird sometimes about their books :) I never re-read most of my books and I don't have the space to keep them all so I like to give them away if I can - so I am always a little surprised when I see so many people being so militant about not giving their books away.
What books have you gotten from HC? Some months, their selection is better than others. TINA

Do you still want my copy of The Wishing Year? I finished it a few days ago. I really liked it, although I didn't fall in love as I have with other books in that genre. I think it's definitely worth reading though. Feel free to read my (and others') review before you decide. If you do want it, just reply to me in a private message with your address. I'm making a big run to the Post Office on Friday, so it could go out then!

I'll try to think of ideas for threads for Women of Mystery. I just read Elizabeth George's new book (which I think is one of her best in quite a while)so maybe we could use that book as a launching point for a group read/discussion?

We do indeed share a lot of books - particularly on the topic of writing. Are you a writer? I'm looking forward to delving further into your library, as I expect I'll find lots of ideas for good books there (as if my tbr pile isn't already the size of a small mountain!). I was very excited to get [The Wishing Year]. Assuming I'm willing to part with it after I read it (which I never know, of course, until after I finish it), I'd be happy to send it on to you. How are you liking Weaving a Way Home? That was my March book also, but I haven't received it yet.

No, I actually haven't read all of her novels, and here's the funny thing - it's hard to recommend a specific one, because they are very different. I have read "Truth and Beauty" (that's what actually got me started), "Bel Canto", "The Patron Saint of Liars", and "Run". I don't even think that any of them would make my favorite books list, but she is still one of my favorite authors. I think it is because of the way she is able to, every so often, write a sentence or paragraph that just takes my breath away. I also find her characters very interesting - they always have lots of dimensions to explore. So I don't know how helpful that was *grin*, but I think if you liked "Truth and Beauty" you should definitely try another - I think "Bel Canto" is probably her most well know, "Run" is the most recent.....again, not very helpful, I know. =)

What a lovely name! Don't worry about the second message. If that is the worst thing you have done recently, you are doing quite well. I know what you mean about LT. I have never been a "social" Internet user... until LT. Now I am talking to people and spending more time online and finding tons more books to add to my wish list. So, like you, I have tripled my book list and spend even less time reading. Whats up with that?? LOL

It's a rainy, damp YVRish day here. Good to stay in and read with a nice cup of tea!
Only two book sales a year! How do you contain yourself? You have discipline for sure! :0 I was at one today! My feet, body and energy have not yet recovered from my own sale and I was at one a week later. Two more coming up next weekend too!! My two new bookshelves are already full! It was a good one today, small but I found a couple Joey Green books and a few other fun things including 6 cds. I'm compiling a list of all the booksales in Ottawa so it's "research".. :)
I have heard that the McGill one is fantastic. When is it again? Maybe I can get a few people together for a roadtrip. I'm overdue as it is.
I did get another ER book! I can't believe it. What a nice surprise. I'm getting The Interloper which looks interesting. The Wed Sisters looks really good, I put my vote in for that one too. So many books...
I looked at your new group and joined. Do Lisa Scottoline's books count? Hers are lots of fun and laugh out loud sometimes. Good strong female protagonists, lawyers judges etc chasing bad guys in heels. I haven't read much mystery of late.
I'm starting an accounting course in early May two nights a week, so not sure how much reading I'm going to get done other than my bkgrp titles... and an accounting textbook ~ yippeeee
Take care and Go! Habs Go! (I think our Sens are done)

I finally have an internet connection again... slow but it's there.
The booksale was fun, a lot of hard work, good co-volunteers and lots of people, good weather etc. BUT... I am now over the One Thousand book count !!! :)
I found lots of stuff. I also got a 1940s copy of a Winnie the Pooh pop-up book that is worth a few dollars. It's a keeper for sure. It came from a collector of vintage Pooh books.
- We lucked out with the weather and everything went very smoothly. As with all booksales, you get things you don't want, like Nat'l Geographics, old magazines and textbooks. Well, we had a High Comissioner visit us with his wife and they bought tons of stuff to send home to their country and we gave them a whole pile of great new textbooks that I wasn't sure what to do with. So that felt super good to know they would go to good use. And now we know what to do with that kind of donation. I know people mean well, but seriously some of the stuff that shows up!
Anyhow, I was wiped out at work today zzzz. The snow is melting like crazy but oh man the potholes!! How's Mtl? I remember it was always bad after the thaw. This year here, it's just awful.
I have my book group this week and have to finish the book! It's Self-Made Man by Norah Vincent. Wasn't as good as I thought it would be,so dragging my butt on it; hope it makes for an interesting discussion.
Happy Spring!
Bye for now,

Nice to hear from you! Glad to hear that Yvr was fun and nice weather.I miss that green all the time. Ya, we got slammed here with the white stuff. It was pretty spectacular & will be paying for it for some time..Oh the potholes!!!! you could lose a whole car in some. I did lots of shovelling! On the bright side of all that snow, it was dry and light for the most part so fairly easy to move.
Yes,I did get another book! I was so happy.Got it quickly too. It's about work.Today is the first day of the new fiscal govt year and I am on day 11 in a row.I worked the last 2 wkends including Easter ($$$) but am bagged and yes,the booksale this weekend. But my pc at home is on the fritz!! I will have many books to add soon! And I have to renew my membership for lifetime.
I will get back on track soon. I love the new "Local" it's great!!
The sun was shining this afternoon and it's warm but we had snow yesterday morning!!Crazy to be a Canadian;)

Have a wonderful fun happy trip! I miss YVR a LOT!!! Weather should be good there now. We are expecting yet another storm tonight in Ottawa. I don't mind snow and I grew up north of MTL but this is just insane. It doesn't want to let up and it's jangling nerves.
Be sure to check out the new ERs before you go.
Did you see the Local thing? That is so kool. I put up a notice about the booksale in April and will put another one up in the fall.
Cold is almost gone but still reading a lot.
Go to Granville Island for me and wave at anyone you see paddling an outrigger. I miss doing that soooo much. And GI was a very favourite place to go hang out. Eat some good sushi and have a blast! Drop a line when you get back.
Cheers,
Clam :)

no problem. I have been down with a terrible chest cold & a lost voice. Read, sleep, read, sleep ~! I guess that's not too bad! but hate being ill.
I found out about LT by rooting around looking for online libraries and never looked back!
Haven Kimmel is funny. A person you would like to meet and hang out with. Zippy is a very entertaining read. She also does her own audio books and really well. Ya running with scissors was over the top but it was funny too. I bet he's a really sick puppy. Did you read The Glass Castle? Unforgettable.
Got a ton more snow today - I guess March came in like a lion.
What kind of work do you translate?
Oh no, a sneeze fit... bye!

One of these days I too will read Bel Canto. Her latest "Run" was a hit last year. I like memoirs. And the quirkier the better. Have you read any Haven Kimmel? She's hilarious. And oh boy, the uber disfunctional family in The Glass Castle. That's one you won't ever forget. Or Running with Scissors. Nutcase parents.
I signed on to help with the sale area at that particular branch. There is a Friends of the library network that most branches belong to and there is often a sale rack, shelves or bookshop of used books that fundraises. So it would be sorting and putting out stuff, keeping it organized etc. It's only a few hours a week and the ladies are nice.
How did you hear about LT? I need to renew in April and will go with a lifetime. Should have done that in the first place!
zzzzzzzzz a long and busy day at work and more in store tomorrow!

No kidding, all the other times I tried, I wasn't able to "paste". It just wasn't allowing me to. Now it works! Yay!
I love the Tickerfactory site. It's so cute! I want to put one on my email for a countdown for our April booksale. I have the "What's on your bookshelf" on my email and it looks great but doesn't show up when I send stuff to my govt address - we are so heavily firewalled. Oh well.
I sure am behind on my reading!!
Do you keep a book diary? I do and have for years and it's really handy to refer back to and write your reviews. You can also compile lists of things you are looking for etc.
I just signed up to help another library in Ottawa with their used book fundraising section. I met a couple of the ladies yesterday and they are very nice. It's a couple hours a week but will help with the bookstore withdrawl.
Thanks a bunch for your help!
Expecting freezing rain here so probably a good afternoon to stay in and read!
Cheers,

Did you open up the edit on your profile? then just pick a spot to paste? I can't figure it out. oh well.
re: bookgrps in libraries - I think it's a safe bet if you have never done a bkgrp. And no obligations. The dynamics can get interesting sometimes. I often have to reel 'em in and back on topic. Mine is 4 yrs old next month so quite proud of that.

Yes, I've had lots of reading time the last couple of months -- but I'm bound to slow down a bit now that I've started War and Peace. LT has really, um, encouraged (?) me to read a lot more, and a lot of books I never would have read before. Gotta love it!

I looked at both the ER bird and ticker.com but how did you get them into your profile page? I bet it's really simple but couldn't do it. Help! The tickers are sooo cute.
Must have been quite the exp being non-Catholic in a Catholic school. Ugh I had nuns and priests for teachers. Mass and confession and lots of catechism. ick. Oh ya & scratchy wool uniforms!
Book groups are fun, interesting and insightful. They often digress into chat about non-book things. I was in one for a long time before moving here and couldn't find one here so started one at the library! It will be 4 yrs old in March and I am quite proud of it. I even have an actor who joins us when he can. Teh ladies love him! It's a lot of work however because it's in a library people can come and go as they please with no obligation. So check your local branch to see if they have one. Many book stores have them too, or just start your own! I have tons of book lists and there are a lot of good websites that can assist too.
What are you reading right now?
I just finished The History of Love today and now have to make all my notes for the discussion later this week. Very good book and I heard yesterday that the book has had a lot of activity.
It's wierd though re-reading a book.
I'm reading something really light and fluffy with a dash of romance in it.. I don't usually go for this stuff but I think i needed a break.
Bye for now,
Clam

You're running out of room too?? I could use more bookcases as I am double stacking but very little space left. I'm a fairly organized person so like to have them in order but my teeny tiny apt is getting more so. Today I brought home 10 more books, one of which I already had! I have started to do that - a symptom of something? Alzheimers?? Dang! I hope not..
I loved "Too Close to the Falls" Really funny and the author and I exchanged emails (we had similar swingset memories) then I met her which was fun. She has a wonderful sense of humour. If you grew up Catholic, you will get it even more. I did start Seduction but the library wanted it back. I since have my own copy but when I will finish it, who knows.
The sequel to Chocolate would probably make a good book group choice as everyone and his dog has read Choc. I run a bkgrp so am always thinking of books for it but its in a library so can't really choose new books as there is too much demand.
Isn't the LT cover option KOOL??
What is the 888 Reading Challenge and how do I get the ladybug on my page? I have to see about getting the bird too.
Take care and Happy Reading,
bye for now,
Clam

I have the 13th Tale too but haven't yet read it. I like the premise so picked it up for future reading.
I am an Early Reviewer too. I just rec'd my 3rd book today and there is another on the way. Pretty cool.
The Joanne Harris sequel to Chocolate sounds D-Lish. I liked that book but didn't like the movie so much, except of course for Johnny. I haven't read her other books and should. They get pretty consistent reviews.
As for Sheri Holman, it doesn't look like she's done much else of note besides the Lodger.
Oh LT - yes I love it too. I forget now how I stumbled across it but it's almost a year now for me and it's costing me loads of $$ always buying books. I was in two book stores on Sunday and today came home with one from Costco and then tomorrow I have a meeting dt for work and will stop into the main libary's used book store on the way home! I have found some pretty good sources to feed my habit.. :)
Don't you just love looking at the covers? So cool. I will take a peek at our collection if you don't mind - sort of voyeuristic isn't it?
Hope your birthday was/is a good one!

No I haven't read any other books by the author of the Dress Lodger. Almost afraid to you know? You won't be disappointed with The History of Love. Some brilliant lines. She is a wonderful writer. Have you read "Astrid & Veronika"? Best book I read last year. New writer and just gorgeous. Tugs at you and makes you really think outside the story too. I look forward to Linda Olsson's new one coming soon.
How are you liking LT? Isn't it fun? I am only a handful of books away from hitting 900 so am very excited. I have told many people about it. It's fun to just look at the covers! Book people are a breed unto ourselves, are we not??! :)

Did you read "The Dress Lodger"? and how about "The History of Love"? I really liked the Dress Lodger and was first drawn to it by its gorgeous cover that I first laid eyes on looking in the window of my neighbourhood bookstore in Yvr many years ago.
I am currently re-reading The History of Love for my book group. What a gifted writer! I love this book. It's funny and gut-wrenching at the same time. I can't wait to see the movie. Even the audio book is outstanding.
