Tietoja minustaI'm 24 years old and a sometime, part time college student. I'm probably going to major in English/creative writing, but I keep changing my mind, and sometimes I wonder if academia is even worth the effort!

I had brain surgery in March 2008, which was a good thing, as it started to fix the medical problems that had crippled me physically, socially, and mentally for the last six years. I'm still recuperating but I'm starting to get my life back on track.

Tietoja kirjastostaniI have pretty diverse reading tastes. I read a lot of kids' and YA lit, mysteries/thrillers, fantasy, and memoirs. I also like the occasional romance (especially paranormals), history & historical fiction, biology and/or medical nonfiction, and poetry.

I'm in the process of reorganizing, combining (from my other account, marcia_g) and cataloging using collections, so bear with me!

Alright. :)

Thanks! My sister took the pic.
How are you feeling Marcia?
Great!
HI Marcia

Many thanks for your kind birthday message. I am blessed to know you!

Hi;
Mark and I have been discussing the possibility of another group read in November and want your input. We have narrowed it down to two books at this point. "The People of the Book" by Geraldine Brooks and "The Thirteenth Tale" by Diane Setterfield. So chat it up with friends or us and let us know if you are up for it and what you think. Probably the same plan as with "Pillars of the Earth" which seemed to work out perfectly for almost all of us.
Think it over and give one of us a shout.
hugs and looking forward to hearing from you,
belva
Hi Marcia

It is great to hear from you.
My headaches have been very wicked lately. I'm now on a predinose taper to try to deal with the pain.

It is good to communicate with someone who knows what a chairi headache is like.

I'm stopping by to say hello.

Hi Marcia
Just a quick note to say welcome back to the 75 challenge group! I missed you!

I hope you are well.

How is your health these days?
Strange -- our grandmas died the same week. But at least I wasn't on spring break. Hope you're doing okay. Prayed today for your family.

Susan
Marcia, is all well for you? You haven't posted on your group thread (75 book challenge) for 3 weeks, which isn't like you. We miss you!
So good to hear from you.
I am so sorry that your grandmother passed away. Were you close to her?
Oh, my dear, you have had a rough few years. My heart goes out to you.

Hugs
Linda
Hi,

Saw you liked Bastard Out of Carolina, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reading my new novel and posting your opinions here (as well as on a few other book-related sites). Thought you might like it since it's also southern and a bit dark. I'd be glad to e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like. Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

Hello,
I read Baghdad Without a Map - that's how I first knew I liked Horwitz's writing. What a treat to read! His wife, Geraldine Brooks, wrote Nine Parts Desire, at about the same time that he wrote BWAM. Nine Parts is about women's lives in Islamic countries. She's also a terrific writer, imo.
Hello,
I just read all the reviews on LT of Confederates in the Attic, including the most recent review, yours. I am really enjoying the book, too.
I am not sure either if I can finish the series this year, I am not even sure if I want to even if I could, but I would definitely want to get started this calendar year.

Piyush
Marcia,
I also had this feeling till last the beginning of this year when I realized that amongst the regular 75ers, we have you, gug, lunacat, Nikki amongst others in their early 20s and Catey is just 18! It sure is a good feeling to know that there are young people around, though age means little on this group.

I will set up a thread for the group read next week, my copy of the book has 78 chapters, if yours also has identical number, nine a month should see us through, what say?

I, btw, also plan to read The Dark Tower Series this year, have you read it?

Piyush
Hi Marcia,

You still interested to join in for a group read of The Stand in April?

Piyush
Yahoo! I'll keep you posted :)
That would be awesome! Coelura and This Alien Shore would be most welcome additions to my collection. I don't have anything you want that I'm getting rid of! LOL
Sounds good! How I envy you! :) Stasia and her daughter are sending me some -- hopefully a few of those will be keepers :)
Have you read Clark's The Marriage Mart? Not typical but the characters and themes have stayed with me. Might be a personal thing rather than the book...
Thanks for your sympathy. The couple that it happened to are amazing people who managed to conquer a lot of their demons, mostly through sheer determination.
So nice of you to check in! And you're the busy one :) Pretty good here. My sleep schedule is whacked but that's old news -- everything else is pretty much on target. Okay, well maybe I should have taken the tree down last week...

:) Hope all's great with you!
What's the name of your thread @ 75 books?
Marcia...thanks for getting back to me. I hope you have good reading for your school courses. Perhaps if and when I read Purgatorio and Paradiso, we can share our adventure. tina
So glad to hear that you are doing much better -- and with hair! :) I'm a dog person too, but not the hubby. Our Maine Coon is stunning but, as is patently unclear in the photo, Blackie has the sweetest face and Gabriel's markings on his face are sooo striking. When he was a baby he was so I kept having to remind myself he was a boy! He looked just like Cleopatra :) Now he looks like a Pharaoh.

I admire your spirit and courage. And thanks for the note.

Take care,
Susan
Hi Marcia

Sure hope your recovery is continuing uneventfully. You had previously indicated you might be interested in a group read of Dante’s Inferno.I am planning to start my read on Feb 25th. While I’m not planning to do a college level course in this, I do want to spend a little more serious reading time with this one than I have on some of the others. Please see http://www.librarything.com/topic/56314 to sign up and join the party. Looking forward to 'reading' with you.

Tina (aka Tutu)
Well let's see British Air has/had a special right now for about $200 rt to London from NYC and then in 2 weeks there's another special fare to Bucharest from London $100 roundtrip. Does that work for you? You can stay the night

Brain surgery?! wowsers. I'm glad you're recovering! That is the cutest doo! Was your hair longer before surgery? I'm assuming they shaved your head. That (surgery) must have been one of the scariest thingss imaginable!

Oh, The Coelura! I loved that book! (I want one too.)

Blessings,
Susan
Marcia,

I got my copy of Bleak House in today for the summer read. It is an absolutely beautiful copy of the book. I ordered it from The Book Depository in England, and they had the Nonesuch Press edition. I am thrilled and cannot wait to get started on it in June.

Stasia, aka AlcottAcre
so sorry to hear of your brain surgery, but glad to know that it helped.
I hope you are well.
Always nice to find other fans of Martin. I still have A Feast for Crows left to read in ASOIF. I'm about half-way through it now. How did you like it?

Hi! I grew up in the town of Attica(near Buffalo) and now live in Geneseo. I lived in NYC for a while, but moved back to Rochester about eight years ago and then started working at the college here. Its a great place to live. My husband has family near Binghamton -- Apalachin? Is that near you? BTW, you have a great selection of books! Have you read the Laurell Hamilton vampire series? What do you think?

Cheers,
Kate
Hi, I received my Secret Santa books today - thank you so much! Both books look fantastic and I can't wait to start reading them. :)

Merry Christmas!
You're welcome, yours is looking mighty good itself.

Julia
Hi, Marcia! Thanks for being my LibraryThing friend. It looks as if we have some books in common. I hope you have a fun week!

Lisa :)
Dear chick-lit reader,

I’m a belgian university student that loves chick-lit. Would you like to help me with my thesis and write to me why you (personally) like reading chick-lit? What is it about chick-lit that appeals to you? What are your favourite books and why? Your help would mean a lot to me!

Best wishes,

Ester Wellens
