I did like A Mercy, but I never caught onto a plot. It seemed to be more of a glimpse into the lives of 8 or so people who have come together through slavery in some form. Like 8 interconnected short stories. Let me know what you think of it.
Not a problem, Zarina. :) And you're not the only one who feels that way. I try not to take it too personal when that happens, but it's hella frustrating. Maybe people are just shy/self-absorbed/in a hurry, whatever, but it only takes a couple seconds to even say "Hi".

Anywho, I'm surprised "I'm So Happy For You" isn't chick lit. Years back, I swore I'd never read those kind of books, but I've definitely fallen for them, probably because they're not full-on romance (I'm not a big romance fan). I'll have to add that one to my ever-growing wishlist. :) Thanks for the recommendation, and good luck reading your other buys.
thanks taken about a year ago up at my aunts house in NY

still had the highlites in
Noticed you liked The Bluest Eye, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here as well as a few other book-related sites. Thought you might like my book since it's also southern and a bit dark. I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like (I'm out of physical copies at the moment). Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

Hi Zeesosa! I see we got the same review book again! What did you think?
Thanks!
Hi! I received Sex Detox from LTER also for review. I do not remember if the book came with a letter from the publisher requiring reviewers to post the review anywhere else besides LibraryThing. Did you receive a letter with that information on it? If so, where else should I post the review to? Thanks!

Jamie
What a sad story about The Little Friend. One of my writer friends suggested I read it as an example of an adult novel with a child protagonist. I thought it was okay - it kept me entertained, but after I closed the book, it didn't seem to leave much of anything behind that was worthwhile to muse on. I don't really get excited about books because of the prose, per se. My idea of a really wonderful book is one in which the prose almost seems to disappear because I'm so involved with the characters and their lives, so I'm always skeptical when people recommend a book to me because they think the prose was so wonderful.

At least you still like your husband - I hope!
Hi, Zeesosa. Welcome to the Books Compared group! I hope you'll join the discussion, and perhaps post a comparison of your own one of these days.

I confess to a great curiosity about how Donna Tartt's book The Little Friend jinxed you!
