About My Library
The HPLHS library is a research collection. We are proud to own a few books that were the personal property of H.P. Lovecraft himself, along with items from the libraries of the late Wilum Hopfrog Pugmire and Larry DiTillio. Society members and the general public are welcome to visit in person at our headquarters in Glendale, CA. Some items might be available to loan but we have not yet formulated a policy on that.
About Me
The H. P. Lovecraft Historical Society (HPLHS/The Society) is an organization founded in 1986 for the purpose of having fun within the worlds envisioned by 1920s gothic horror writer H.P. Lovecraft. Now a for-profit business located near Los Angeles, we are the world’s premiere producer of Lovecraftian entertainment, creating motion picture, audio drama, book, game, spoken word and musical projects with a unique blend of respect for the source material, authentic period details, production value and a sense of humor. In addition to our entertainments, we create a wide variety of other products for Lovecraft fans (e.g. shirts, mugs, props, and much more) and sell them in our Glendale store and online. And we are indeed also a society with active members all over the globe. We maintain a library at our Glendale headquarters that is open to members for use on site.

We find much to like and admire about H.P. Lovecraft. But it's possible to like someone and disagree with them at the same time. Recent events have painfully reminded us that the HPLHS celebrates the works of an author whose views regarding race have no place in the modern world. We grapple constantly with the challenge of reconciling our apprehensions about his personal views with our appreciation for his artistic creations. We strive to recontextualize those creations for a new era. We fully agree that Black lives matter. We can’t change Lovecraft, but we can help change our world. We must evaluate the past unflinchingly, see the present honestly, and embrace changes to create a future that brings justice and equality to everyone. To pursue that change, the HPLHS donates a portion of its profits to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. Further, we do our best to work with a diverse team of artists to ensure that the products we make are inclusive and welcoming to all.
