I noticed that we share 36 books in common. I am a public reference librarian and select fiction for the five libraries in Plano, Texas. I have led book clubs for the library and help to lead one currently. I would like to be your friend on Librarything. One of our library book club is called Who Chose This Book? Everyone brings what they are currently reading and we discuss the books.

skyfit, I was exploring some of the new people high up on my "users with avaland's books" list and came across you. Until the end of November, I was a bookseller who also facilitated book groups. It was one of my greatest pleasures. Often I would start and facilitate a group for about a year and when successors within the group became clear, I turned the group over to them and moved on to another (I don't think I've done more than 2 or 3 at any one time). And I used to facilitate Book Group Networking Nights where representatives of many book groups could gather and share tips and recommendations. These were great fun. I'd be happy to share my formula for these events if you are interested. I was glad to see, before I left, that one of the local libraries had picked up on this idea and had a very successful night like this of their own! Best, Lois

Tell me all about your book groups! I have one, which should be 10, one for each member! We are all women "of a certain age" but I'm afraid I might lose them because I don't seem to be hitting the right titles. One reads mystery and Christian stuff indiscriminantly, one reads non-fiction survival stuff. They all liked The Red Tent, half liked Tortilla Curtain, one liked Reading Lolita, most liked local author Sandra Dallas Persian Pickle Club. We also read Night, by E Wiesel. Shadow Divers is next.

Next question: if we are still around next year (mill levy vote will probably fail)I have night people who want a club. Should I use the same titles? Let them choose?
