Tietoja minustaI surround myself with books and the ocean. It helps that I work in a library as a the director and I'm from Maine. My personal challenge is to read every book indexed in Book Lust and More Book Lust (both by Nancy Pearl). Those books are tagged 'booklust' whether the suggestion came from Book Lust or Nancy's second book, More Book Lust. Books tagged with "accomplished" are books I have finished reading specifically for the challenge.

About my reviews: you will have to read the BookLust "rules" in order to understand the nature of most of my reviews (see wordpress link).
Disclaimer: reviews on LibraryThing are extremely edited versions of full reviews on WordPress.

Tietoja kirjastostaniI'm trying to catalog everything I have ever read, even if it's not in my collection anymore. I'm also tagging the books I would love to read when I have the time. The tag 'essential' means these are the materials I would rush into a burning building to save.
I can't survive without music so I've included most of the music I love and own.

Noticed you liked She's Come Undone, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here as well as a few other book-related sites. Thought you might like my book since it's also about a disturbed young girl's downward spiral and a bit dark. I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like (I'm out of physical copies at the moment). Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

Thanks,

Chris
You live in ME, but I don't see Elizabeth Strout in your fave authors list ???
And she just won the Pulitzer for OLIVE KITTEREDGE. You gotta read that one! I still haven't read her first one, but it's on my wish list. - TimBazzett
I think the February books are still trickling in, so I wouldn't give up yet. Did you have mail forwarding set up?

Abby
Hey,

Just a quick note to let you know that my new novel, Dirty Little Angels, is now available. Thought you might like it since it's been compared to Larry Brown, whom I noticed you like. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

Take care,

"A cloud does not know why it moves in just such a direction and at such a speed, It feels an impulsion... this is the place to go now. But the sky knows the reasons and the patterns behind all clouds, and you will know, too, when you lift yourself high enough to see beyond the horizons"

Richard Bach, "Illusions"
It's not embarrassing, I admire that kind of planning. This now self-imposed challenge has been the least structured thing in my life right now. I let it all happen through serendipity. There have been some books that have been sitting on my shelf for over 2 years and others that come into my home and get read right away. It all depends on my mood and what is in arms reach. Some months I read a ton and others I am just happy to get through one difficult book. I also typically have three or four books being read at a time. It is so early in this for me that I feel like I am not making progress, but someday it will be more apparent.
I haven't written any of the ones you listed as your September reads. I will give add them to the September list and see what others think.
Wow! That's a LOT!!

Good Luck ")
Absolutely! And I've realised there are always more fantastic places to uncover and delight in - I hike regularly and am constantly astounded by the awesome sense of peace and magnificence in nature. It's something one doesn't ever fully comprehend!

Out of interest, how many books are listed in Book Lust? I assume you love Pearl's choices? How many have you managed to read thus far?! If it's anything like 1001 Books You Must Read.. , it'll take a while yet ")
If you can find a place for it in you logic, in August a few of us are reading Enduring Love by Ian McEwan. We also need ideas for September's choice so if you can think that far ahead, let us know some titles you will be reading.
Wow! What a gorgeous pic!

I can definitely see why you enjoy time out at the ocean.

Have fun!
Along the lines of mistakes in More Book Lust, in the index: She put only the first sister, [[Jon Godden]] as the author of [Two Under the Indian Sun], when the other author, [[Rumer Godden]] is my favorite author. Try her books [China Court], [An Episode of Sparrows], and her autobiography in two parts, [A Time to Dance, No Time To Weep], and [A House With Four Rooms]. I love your picture! I love books and the ocean, too!
How are the Book Lust readings coming along? I feel like I am not making any progress, but then there are so many books to read if you are working from both volumes. Someone dared me to add in the Book Crush books, but I dont know if I am that crazy. If you are up for it, the Book Lust group is discussing having a small book club for the group. We will pick a new book from Book Lust each month, read it, and then discuss it through the group. Come by the group if you are interested.
I love Nancy Pearl too! What a rockstar she is!

hi seriousgrace...missed the part about Maine so I assume you are on the atlantic...my grandaughter's name is Ula Grace so that's what attracted me to your name...glad I did...ted
wow!!!...what a list...I'm impressed...I just started, so I've got a ways to go...what ocean are you on?...I'm on the pacific...you might enjoy'the circus in winter" by cathy day...best regards ted
Thanks for the inspiration. Books and the ocean sustain me as well. I am on the SC coast.
Hi there! You're listed as one of my "Members with Similar Books," so I checked out a few reviews on your blog. Awesome! Good luck in your Book Lust quest - I'd like to get through those someday too. I especially liked your Book Lust Rules and About Me pages - you are an entertaining writer and a great blogger. ;)
Hi:

I'm new to LT and I was browsing around looking at members who share a lot of books with me. Came across yours and went to your personal site. The baby is adorable. Anyhow, I'm jealous of all your books and have these two recommendations:

A great curl-up-on-your-favorite-chair-with-a-cu... work of fiction is A Short History of a Small Place by T.R. Pearson. Positively the best thing he ever did.

I also noticed you read Lusitania by Diana Preston. Go out and get Boxer Rebellion by her. It's gripping. Anyhow, I like your two sites and love your library.

Tom
Great to meet you! Thanks for accepting my friendship. I'm Looking forward to checking out your library and I hope you enjoy mine.
Seriously, Grace!

I love the new picture! I can hear the ocean; I can feel the warm sun and breeze; a mini "return to happiness!"

I'm a trained librarian, too, and am more than pleased to have discovered a trove of wonderful people and resources at Librarything. I just happened on the site a few days ago, and am completely hooked! I'm not sure I'm ready for the Book Lust challenge, but I'm always on the lookout for great reads!

Have a great week!!
you're welcome. Your library's really inspiring and a joy to visit!

Yes, I have watched the movie, Tuesdays with Morrie. Needless to say, I enjoyed the book more. Although I must admit Hank Azzaria and Jack Lemon made it worthwhile watching!
Thanks for your message. Being from Down Under, it's interesting to see which Aussie authors we share - and you've read,
Cheers
Don
I saw your post about working on both Booklust and Newbery lists and thought I'd drop by to say Hi! I was also surprised by how many books we share (80), normally when I share so many books with someone they're all Star Wars. Good luck on your challenge!

ArmyAngel
That is the most detailed system, I just add TBR to the ones I have not yet read. I think I am going to start a FaceBook book club to find other nutty people like us who want to read all these books. Have you seen the calendars yet? I wonder if there are other books on those or just the ones from the books.
I think it's going to take me the rest of my life to read the titles listed in both books. I just take them one at a time and pray I live long enough to finish. I keep a short list of titles with me and if I find myself in a situation to pick up a book from it, I do. Have you read them all yet?
Grosse Pointe Blank is definitely on my list of essentials, as well!
Great picture of the coast! I see we share a whole bunch of books...
SeriousGrace,

We have a lot of books in commom. I just joined and saw your name on "books we share." We also share "grace."
