RyhmätLibrarians who LibraryThing

Tietoja minusta I am a librarian living in Alaska who tries not to keep books any more. I've moved my books way too often, so now, when I get a book, I try to figure out how I am going to get rid of it after I've read it - turn it in for credit at the second hand bookstore? pass it on to a friend or my father? put it on the shelf in our breakroom at work for anyone to take?

I have become totally addicted to Library Thing because now I can add the books I've read to my profile and I can visit the books whenever I want. The pictures of the covers makes this especially satisfying. I only add books I have read or have used heavily, such as cookbooks and library science books I have used a lot at work.

Tietoja kirjastostani I have worked at the Alaska State Library since 1989 in Juneau and in Anchorage. I started as the government publications librarian, was the collection development librarian for a year (that's a long story!), and became the government publications librarian again, combined with the technical services supervisor. I moved back to Anchorage in 1999, where I have continued with the State Library as a the grants administrator; regional librarian for the Talking Book Center; state data coordinator for Alaska's public library statistics; and facility manager for the Anchorage office of the State Library.

I have also moonlighted since 1995 as a part-time reference librarian at the Egan Library at the University of Alaska Southeast in Juneau and have provided part-time reference since 1999 at the University of Alaska Anchorage Consortium Library. I really like this combination of administrative work at the State Library and direct patron contact at the university libraries.

Ok, so we share a disturbing number of books... AND... we BOTH live in Anchorage.

I haven't learned how to part with any books yet. Except for dupes, which I am currently donating to Anchorage City Jail.

Your profile pic looks familiar. Where might our paths have crossed?

WOW...what a most impressive library of books you have read! I browsed through your list and found many I had read. Thanks for sharing this.
Hi, Patience. I used to live in Ketchikan, Alaska in the late 80s. Have also visited Anchorage and Juneau. I loved Ketchikan's library with it's old fashioned cozy library look. I loved to sit by the huge picture windows and watch the salmon swim upstream. You are lucky to be a librarian, If I had my career to do over again, that would be one of my top choices. Are you from Alaska ? What are some of your favorite books? Polly
Hi, Patience. Yours is a wonderful profile and a very interesting life. I've been to 47 of our 50 states...Alaska is yet to come.

Have you done any writing yourself?

Shelley
Hey there!

Yeah, I live about an hour from DC. I used to work up in Arlington, near the pantagon.

I have been a member here for a few months, still have to add quite a few...at least one more full bookshelf. And that isn't counting all the books I have loaned to friends, never to be seen again, I am sure.

So--you are from Alaska? I would love to go there some day. My father has been there several times for work. I am so jealous!

Anywhoo--I will go and take a peek at your list!

Alexis
