Tietoja minusta I'm an IT professional, born and raised in the US, now resident in London.
LibraryThing appeals to me in a number of ways. For one thing, I'm simply enough of a geek to be pleased by well-ordered databases full of stuff. I am also appreciative of the amount of power which LT devolves to the end user -- allowing you to tweak titles, covers, and the rest of it. It's always the users who know best what an application is supposed to do, since they're the ones trying to get something done. Too few organisations recognise that. Lastly, I'm impressed by the responsiveness and openness of the LT team. They listen to the community, and they explain what they're doing and why, and they're enthusiastic. I like it.
Tietoja kirjastostani Everything I actually own is now listed here. There's a long way to go to get tags, ratings, and reviews sorted out, but I'll work on those at leisure.
I left behind quite a lot when I crossed the pond, so most of my academic stuff (philosophy and theatre, mainly, since you ask), as well as the fiction I found early on, is no longer with me.
When reading for pleasure, I'll most often choose science fiction. I also enjoy mainstream literature, science writing, and humour. I claim not to like much fantasy writing, but there's a fair bit of it in my library -- I'm not quite sure how that happened. In contrast, there aren't many IT books in my library -- I usually persuade my employers to purchase these, as they'll do more good if shared around (and anyhow, most of them date quickly).

I see that you entered the Kingsthorpe Bookshop in Northampton on LT Local. I don't know if you are aware of the fact that it is closing at the end of this week.I have noted this in the 'Comments wall'.
