Tietoja minusta Well, for starters, I am a total bookworm. Not only do I love reading, I love everything having to DO with reading. I love cataloguing these books, reviewing them, getting suggestions. I especially love books about books. Or books with lists in them of what works have influenced other people. I also like coffee, my dogs, cigarettes, and Netflixing the crap out of serial television shows.

Tietoja kirjastostani Still working on it, but I think I've catalogued most of what I've read over the past three years. I've been keeping a database of everything I finish. Please note, this does not include every book I've started. A lot of the works appearing here are Wishlist--things I have not read but want to, mostly courtesy of a one Ms. Nancy Pearl, Rockstar Librarian. I'm still not sure what my policy is on finishing books. Ms.Pearl thinks that you should give a book 50 pages before deciding if you want to commit to it or not. Do any of you have any thoughts on this? I mean, is life too short to keep reading something you're not enjoying? But then again, I think of certain books (in particular, The Cider House Rules by John Irving) that I would never have finished if I only gave it 50 pages. That book didn't really capture me until about 100 pages or so into it. Maybe I'm thinking overmuch about this.

Hi! I received Sex Detox from LTER also for review. I do not remember if the book came with a letter from the publisher requiring reviewers to post the review anywhere else besides LibraryThing. Did you receive a letter with that information on it? If so, where else should I post the review to? Thanks!

Jamie
Too funny, I was going to post to you today to ask you if you liked the Carol O'Connell book. She's not for everyone. I'm a big mystery fan, probably a result of my misspent youth, stealing my Dad's Perry Mason books. I went through your library more thoroughly today, found a few surprises, I just bought [Rise and Shine], only one chapter in. I met Anna several years ago, she was a journalist at the Chicago Trib.and had just published her first book, whose name escapes me at the moment. She's a neat lady. I've picked a few titles for you. Nevada Barr's first book [Track of the Cat], is good, she's a National Park Ranger, so there's lots of nature stuff. I didn't see any Anne Tyler in your collection, [Ladder of Years] is good and [Breathing Lessons] won a Pulitzer. For something funny, Katie McAlister's [Corset Diaries] is a hoot, read my review. She also has a paranormal series, the first one is [You Slay Me] about a woman who discovers she has paranormal abilities and who falls in love with a dragon, in human form. There are four books in the series and they are fairly quick, quirky and sexy.

I'm still struggling along with my shoulder, it's better, but not healed yet. I'm following orders mostly, I just can't put down my paint brush, not when I got a new set of oils and canvas for Christmas. It's surprising how physical painting is! :>)

Take Care, good reading

Hi Denise,

I got good news from the MRI, the muscle has a tear in it, but is not torn through. My wonderful doctor gave me a choice:medication and PT or surgery. I'm giving the medication and PT at least four weeks, I really do not want to have surgery. I'm keeping up with the acupuncturist and the chiropractor, never hurts to hedge your bets. I hope you are enjoying THE MAN WHO CAST TWO SHADOWS. I got hooked on the way she writes, but not everyone likes this style of book. I've many many recommendations I can make. Hey, I'm actually feeling better this AM.

take care, good reading

Hi,
Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you. Thank you so much for your compliment, I may send a copy to my son, he definitely does not think I'm cool. I agree that we should continue to correspond, if you like, my email address is on my profile page and we could talk that way. I amy be off for a while, I get the results of my MRI today and find out whether I have to have surgery on my shoulder. Years of tennis playing, gardening, and using power tools, have taken their toll on my rotator cuff.
Take care, happy reading,

Hey there, MissConstantReader! Thanks for the lovely and encouraging note -- I really appreciate it.

If you want to become totally obsessed, try The Man who Cast Two Shadows] by Carol O'Connell. It's the first book in her fairly long, but casual series. Almost any of the books, except the last three can be read in any order. I picked this book up, probably fifteen years ago, we were still living in the suburbs of Chicago. Didn't read anything more of hers for several years, then stumbled into a used book store in the city and the woman who owned it had all the existing books stacked on a table. I was totally hooked.

You are right, our reading tastes are all over the place. I've always read what interested me. I got started on Nora Roberts when my sister had knee replacement and I ended up living with her for a month. Nora was who she had the most of, and since I read three, four books a week, when I'm in a strange place (North Carolina) with none of my usual occupations to distract me.

Hope you enjoy the book, if you give it a try. Love to hear from you again.

Thank you for your interest in my library. In response to your 50 page question, I'll usually give a book two chapters. Having said that, I threw away BONFIRE OF THE VANITIES before I finished the first chapter, I knew exactly what was going to happen. I lived in TN for many years and visited Knoxville more than once, small world, eh?
