Tietoja minusta I'm a teacher of sorts who works about 10-20 hours a week- hence the massive reading + insistence on (free) library use. I am neither Australian, contrary to the Platypus in my name, nor a tapir, contrary to the photo. I do like both. I read a lot. And love receiving recognition on the internets, so truly, feel free to comment here or on my 50 Book Challenge. Plus, I'm starting law school this fall so this is probably my final fling with reading (fiction) like a maniac for many, many years. Sigh.

Tietoja kirjastostani In the last two years, I've lived in Bangkok, Thailand, Hollywood, CA, Long Beach, CA, and Astoria, NY (that's NYC for you non-locals). Thus, my library has been whittled down to a more portable size, often against my wishes. Still, tally ho, and keep a stiff upper lip and all that. That's what public libraries are for, and someday my library, like the temple, will be rebuilt.

I'm working on updating the blog list. If you can leave me a pm with your email address I'll send the html file.

It should allow you to add links one by one. I didn't see a place to upload an entire list in one shot though. Hope this helps!
That is so cool! I hope you like it. I've heard a few people say it's too political or trippy. I really enjoyed the first five though. I'm waiting for the last two from amazon right now. I just finished reading The Dark Knight Returns, which was incredible. The art is so gorgeous and the writing is, um, Frank Miller. About that Rushdie group, I have a copy of Midnight's Children sitting on my to read pile. I've always heard his books are so amazing.
Hi:

I am so pleased to have heard back from you. Prompted by your potential interest I have just started a group called Rushdie Lovers, and an initial thread. I would be thrilled if you and anyone else you know started discussing Rushdie. I have also invited you to be a friend.

Andrew
I thought you might like this... http://www.librarything.com/work/3377868...
Hi Krista:

Your profile is most exciting; I love travel but have not made it out to the Far East yet. You said on the 1001 Books thread you read most of Rushdie, which again I find exciting, since I have never had a chance to discuss him with anyone. I have read Fury, Moor's Last Sigh and Ground Beneath Her Feet and loved them all. I would love to discuss Rushdie. Maybe I will start a Rushdie admirers' group. What do you think?
Hi! Thanks for the comment. I'm actually halfway through reading Watchmen right now. A friend of mine told me to read The Invisibles though, and now I'm hooked on that. It's pretty disturbing sometimes, and incredibly complex and amazing. I have a whole stack of others to get to. The Preacher series seems interesting too. I recently started reading words in bubbles again because of the Fables series, which is just cute and fun. I really do love little monotremes.
A Dirty Job is definitely worth it. I can't tell if Lamb or A Dirty Job is better. Highly recommended.
Don't know if you read my post on the 50 Book Challenge group, but here it was:

Yes! Read Bloodsucking Fiends first. You Suck will make sense without it - but you get a better appreciation for the "main" characters, and I don't think I would have appreciated it as much without the prior knowledge. Have you read A Dirty Job?

Good luck on the law school admissions. The next three years will definitely be filled with books and more reading than you thought you were ever capable of...it just might not be the kind you really enjoy.
Your review of Atonement is hilarious! "...it at least needn't shame our generation." I'll admit I have been holding off on reading the book b/c of all the hype too (despite having bought it several years ago, I just can't get around to reading it and thinking of Keira Knightley doesn't help matters...), but now I will make a good faith effort.
That's an interesting picture on your profile page, KPlatypus. I'm guessing it's not a portrait of you. But what is it, exactly. Just wondering.
Thank you Santa Thing! I got my books yesterday and I am very, very pleased. Despair was on my to read doppelganger list - perfect. And I haven't yet read any James Ellroy but have heard good things, again, an excellent pick!

Thanks so much!
Fairfax
