Tietoja minusta I'm 22 years old with a spangly new law degree. Luckily for me, I have absolutely no intention of becoming a lawyer. Given another few years (and a further degree, in Management) I hope to be working for a charity, or NGO and doing something groovy and positive. Well, we'll see how that goes...

Most of the reading I get to do during term-time (and much of the rest of the time, too) is reading for my course. It's a bit of a shame that I haven't so much time for the huge numbers of books that I used to devour at college (although I've been whipping through plenty this summer), but I've been able to choose some really interesting modules. So luckily, my course reading encompasses books not just on law and business, but on philosophy, feminism, history and politics. In your face, single honours degree!

I now have a separate LibraryThing account which is home to my wishlist. It can be found here:

Tietoja kirjastostani My library has a reasonably broad range of both fiction and non-fiction, like so many people on here, and it also seems to continually expand... Quality is quite varied too, for which I can only apologise.

I'm confining my catalogue to just the books that I actually own, but it won't really be representative of the books that I have at my disposal. My parents have a vast number of books which I have complete access to, but I'm not going to catalogue them because:
a) There are too many repeats, and I can only catalogue for so many hours per day;
b) It won't be too much longer before I no longer live with my parents; and
c) My Dad wouldn't be dead impressed if I keep nicking all of his books to catalogue them.

So I'm going to feel like I have very few books, even though the number of books in my house is bordering on the shocking.

Solution: I shall buy more books!

I tend to get a lot of books from car boot sales and charity shops. That way I can get loads of great books for very little money, and they come ready with that lovely used-book smell that I love so much. What can I say, I like books that have character.

For my modern academic texts, though, I like them to look neat and tidy, and I don't like getting them second-hand. I like having the most up-to-date edition (even where it's not strictly necessary) and I don't want other people's notes all over them. Some people write in pen! So long as you don't do that, I'm sure we'll get along.

Thanks for writing back - 'Perdido Street Station' is in a genre all of it's own, so if when you do read it I would be interested to hear your thoughts. How is 'The Passion' going? I really appreciate her unique and quirky style.
Thanks for your comment re my library, flattering when i look at the number of books you have (522?!!!)
hope your travels were interesting...

Hi, Kate here, see we share a few books, including interestingly, 'Perdido Street Station'. I am trying to branch out a bit and find his take on fantasy genre interesting. How did you like to book? Have you read 'Looking for Jake?'
Kate
Lies, all lies!

I'll do more when I get to Greece, and have all my books in one place again.
Although we share only 15 books (mostly novels), I thought that I would see who was the one other person who has Frederick Schaur's Playing by the Rules in their library. I came to this book by way of pulling the "thread" of Ludwig Wittgenstein ("Rule following"). And hence into an existential "bath".
