Hi Irish,

Thanks for the invitation. You're right it does so often help to read together. Isn't it strange how reading at one end of the scale is such a solitary pleasure and at the other such a communal activity? Which is why what Mac are up to at the moment is so annoying. I'm going to ring their help line later today and see if I can get the problem solved otherwise I shall change the blog over to Word Press and let everyone know the new address.
Hi Irish

How is it going? I laughed when reading your blog about being in a new place 9 days and already you are a library member. Nice to see you have your priorities straight! I am enjoying the book tapestry100 sent me about the Labrador detective but I wish I could find more time to just sit and read it.

Opps better go tummy made an almighty rumble so I think it is time to go get some food.
Hey Irish!
How's it going? I *finally* got The Gatecrasher back from my slow-reading relatives. Hope the wait hasn't been too annoying. :) I should be able to drop it in the mail on Thursday or Friday. Hope you're having a great summer!
lisa :)
OK, so I really can't get into I, robot. I'm only about 60 pages in and had to put it down. Hoping it will get better. It has to be better than The Spirit of the Place, tho! That was a miserable read.

The last ARC I read redeemed the ARC pile for me though (I was beginning to regret the ARCs!). Penelope Przekop's Aberrations was wonderful! I posted up my review today. Tonight I am starting Far World.

Did you get the e-book for Ermintrude? What do you think?
I"m only a couple of "chapters" in (some are so short!), so far not too bad. I was going to sit down and read a good chunk of it last night, but a friend stopped by and we ended up going out to dinner and sat talking and catching up until almost 11. So that rather did away with my reading night. Hopefully tonight I can get into it tonight.

What are you working on right now?
Glad the books arrived! I think you will enjoy them - they are a fun little set of books. You'll have to let me know when you finish them what you think of them.

I finally finished Fablehaven. What a great book! I'll be looking for the second one soon.

I just had to set aside the ARC I've been working on (The Spirit of the Place). I just couldn't do it (not necessarily bad, but far from good and painfully stereotyped/cliched), so I'm moving on to the next in the pile, Aberrations (can't remember the author).
Hi Irish

I would be interested in being added to the Nancy Williams list as well,

Thanks :)
I hope the move went well. Are you unpacked yet? ha ha We've been in our house for 4 years and I swear I still have a few boxes that I have never touched. At least you have a long weekend to get some stuff done. Enjoy!
Would you believe I haven't finished it yet? Realistically, I only read 2 books the entire month of June. It was my singularly worst reading month in years. It's been awful. I've been alternating between Fablehaven and Kate Chopin's The Awakening (my 1001 Book for June, which as of July 1 still isn't finished) and I've got a pile of ARCs I need to get to, as well. I don't know what happened this month, but reading wasn't it.

Other than books being hidden amongst the boxes, how has the move been going?
I was worried! We're still trying to narrow down a date for the Book Barn meeting. I hope you can still join us. Good luck moving and I hHope the new job suits you well, too. Come back when you can.

Clare
Where've you been?
Haha at the moment that is not a bad thing I have actually managed to work my TBR down to a few books. Im getting concerned :) Even my steady supply of library books seems o be drying up at the moment.
Hey Irish

I followed the book giveaway link from your page to your friend tapestry 100's paged and guess what I won hurrah. I also noticed you won as well so congrats. Best of all I discovered a new book blogger which is great.

Cheers
Casp
Hi, Gail! I Have Lived a Thousand Years arrived in today's mail. Again, thank you so much.
Thank you so much, Gail! I am looking forward to reading I Have Lived a Thousand Years. That's so kind of you to share your copy with me. I hope you are enjoying your weekend.
first time logging on to this site....noticed some authors we have in common... evanovitch...koontz..just read the darkest evening of the year...loved it...and hosseini..just read kite runner...made me cry....a thousand splendid suns i read before that...it also touched my heart.....donna
So, I should just go buy all the Dresden books right now, should I? That sounds like a huge attempt to really get me to fall off the no-book-buying wagon, you temptress!
Hi Irish.

Hope all is well. Read a book I thought you might like called Clara's War by Clara Kramer. It is a holocaust memoir of a Polish Jewish girl. I found it to be a beautiful book and so inspiring.
Thanks - Recovery is going ok, albeit slowly. I drove today for the first time (I was going stir crazy!). Still tender.

I hear you about packing, no fun at all. Have a packing party, invite all your friends, order pizza!
How's it going?? You must be busy at work and at packing. I've missed you on the boards and the blogs. Hope you're having some fun too.

T.
So it's been a little while since I finished A Certain Slant of Light, and I'm still not sure how I feel. I think it arises from the writing or engineering of the story. Normally I read a book that I don't enjoy, it's an all around let down. I don't like the plot, characters, writing style, etc. This book I believe I liked the writer a lot. How she wrote. Her descriptions, her dialogue, even the characters to an extent (though they were part of the problem). But, when it was all put together something wasn't right. Maybe I'm being left with a feeling of something missing, that isn't just plot related. Like she was so close to making it work and stopped short. If you know what I mean? (I sort of don't.)

It's almost like the part I normally don't like is awesome, and the stuff people don't screw up alone is wrong so I'm left feeling off about it without really knowing why. It's unsettling for someone who dwells on their books so much and likes to be able to define her feelings on them.
Hey. Seeing as how you seem to read everything, have you ever read the book A Certain Slant of Light by Laura Whitcomb? It's a teen book that I just finished, and as of right now I have no clue what I feel about it. I believe I enjoyed it, but at the moment my thoughts/feelings are swirling around my head. I feel unsettled/confused/weird/uncertain. I don't normally end a book feeling like this; to the point where I can't really tell you what I thought of the book. I don't believe I like this feeling much. Lol.
Hey Irish!
I liked your review of Fablehaven by Brandon Mull. I think I must have been reading it at the same time as you and I enjoyed it as well - cute start to a series and plenty of potential! (I haven't forgotten about sending you The Gatecrasher either, I'm still waiting to get it back from my sis.) Hope you're having a fabulous summer!
el :)
I finished it last night, and I'm of 2 minds about it. I have to guess that it was good, since it kept me up until almost 1:30 last night to finish it, but I found the shift in POV perspective every single chapter hard to follow, especially since it took a paragraph or 2 to figure out who the character of focus was for that chapter. I read another book by O'Nan last year call The Circus Fire, about the Ringling Bros tent fire in the 40s. I thought the same thing then, that it was a good book, but I felt (and still feel) that O'Nan seems to feel that since he knows who he is writing about, the reader ought to as well.

I'm glad I read it, but I'm also glad that it was a free book.
You can absolutely still join the ring. If you could please post over there so I can add you on I'd apprecaite it.

What part of Southern MA do you live in?
Looks like we have much the same taste...

:)
That's what I was thinking! Don't we all love to have our say? I know I do!
Gail, I am so enamored of the poll you set up for Group Reads. I didn't know such a thing existed. If a poll shows up on my website, which I'm already thinking it will, you can definitely take credit for it!

Irish! Thank you! - Meg
You just want to be my friend 'cause I'm almost done with War and Peace! ;o) Or you want me to help you MOVE!!!!
Hi - nice beach photo. I miss the big glasses though.

You're missing all the fun over at Group Reads -- we're discussing the next book already. I'm missing your organizing skills!!!

Terri
Hi Irish you look nice and relaxed in that pic.

:) Casp
Hi Irish, thanks for the friends request. I love the way in which we can all start to meet up in a variety of places. It makes the virtual friendships so much stronger. Hope to see you in the Salon later on.

Ann
I've been enjoying your lovely pictures on your blog and trying not to get too jealous! Oh well, I hope you are having a great time. It is seriously my favorite fantasy, being alone on a tropical beach with a big stack of books and a little drink in a coconut.
You know, that really wasn't fair. I picked up the first Dresden Files book yesterday, and it'll be next Wednesday before I can get back to the bookstore and pick up the rest. You should have warned me! (-:
I haven't gotten back to you about the Twilight series because I've been trying to figure out what it really is about the series that I like. And I really can't figure it out. I'm normally really good at articulating what I feel about books, but this one not so much. Maybe because I haven't read them in a while.

I love them though. I can see what your saying about them, but as I'm reading them I don't see things that way. I do find it endearing that he "stalks" her. As I'm reading it, I don't see it as stalking. I like Edward. I find him and his family intriguing. I do find Bella a bit annoying. I can handle how head over heals she is for Edward, but find it hard that there is nothing much to her besides this. Through the books you see hobbies and loves that Edward has, but with Bella she retains so much of her youth and much of her character is based on her overpowering love for Edward. This gets a bit old.

BUT . . . I still love them, even if I can't explain why, even if I can see what your saying, and I am eagerly looking forward to the 4th and final book this August.

P.S. I’m not sure I’d have called Edward dreamy. I reserve that for Patrick Dempsey’s character on Grey’s Anatomy, Derek Shepard. Lol.
