Tietoja minusta For 25 years I practiced international corporate law in New York City, Paris, Saudi Arabia and the Midwest. However, my dream since my teenage years was to write a novel. In 1999, I took early retirement at the age of 52 to fulfill this dream. It took me nine years, but my dream was finally realized with the publication of "A Thousand Veils."

This novel was inspired by several refugee cases I handled on a nonremunerative basis. In 1997, at the request of one of my partners, I took on a refugee, a poet from the Middle East, as a client. After some extraordinary efforts, I succeeded in obtaining political asylum for my client in the US. It was due to my efforts that this person's life was saved, but this experience also changed my life. I was profoundly moved--in a way that no deal, however complex or remunerative, could ever have affected me. Several months after the completion of this case, I retired and began writing "A Thousand Veils."

Tietoja kirjastostani The books I am showing in my library are those which I used in my research for "A Thousand Veils." They are primarily by and about Muslim women. My personal library is very eclectic and contains books in both English and French.
