When Christian writers take different positions, I look to the deep Scriptural reasoning of classic covenant theologians to resolve differences. Writings based on covenant theology help me separate good, better, and best theological teaching. I value the insights provided by Augustine, Calvin, the Westminster Divines, and the Puritans.

Tietoja kirjastostani For years, I have maintained a long list of books that I would most like to have handy for research and reference purposes. Currently I own only about 5,000 of the 15,000 books on my list. I would love to email an Excel list of the other 10,000 books to used book dealers who can quote me good prices (no more than half of the retail price) on the books that I still want to buy. If you know book dealers who provide such a quote service, would you please email tim@covenant.net? Thanks.

Eventually, I hope to have my 15,000 favorite books in the palm of my hand. I would like to buy (once costs come down) or rent a high speed scanner like the one described at http://www.kirtas-tech.com/APT_1200.asp. Then a room full of books can be be reduced to a DVD full of PDF files. Once all books have been scanned to a DVD, I plan to give away or sell all of my hard copy books (depending on what the copyright laws allow).

I wonder if the Charles Cameron that blogs here is the same that went to WEstern SEminary in Holland Mi. in the late 70's and early 80's? If so I went to school with you for a portion of that time- you can check my own library out also and I would be interested in knowing where I might acquire your book on Berkouwer. For your books you could check out Re Run books in Pasadena TX 713-477-5554. I have been moving a lot for my company and haven't been there in a few years and they changed management but they are big and have lots and lots of books.

Yes, physical books are cool, alexandra. But they don't last. I have many older books. Once they get to be 100 years old, you can't really touch or use them. They fall apart and crumble in your hands. Scanning them in is the only answer in terms of preserving the words. I have some rare stuff that is beyond copyright and want to scan them in. Thanks for the info.

Do you have a certain hand held reader that you like? I've been looking at the Sony one but I'm not sure if its any good. Having my library in my hand would be nice.

On your desire to scan your books into PDF format -- I own both print copies and e-book copies of many books that I love, and I always find myself preferring the print copy to the e-book. There's something much more satisfying about taking a much-loved book to a cafe and sitting down to read, or propping oneself up in bed with the book on a Saturday morning, that is much more difficult to do with the e-book, even with a laptop. In addition, with reference books and such, you may find that you wish to annotate, underlining and commenting in the margins, and that's just less convenient to do electronically than with a pencil. Another consideration is that rare books can be damaged by the scanning process (the binding can crack, or pages can crumble), as well as the copyright issues someone else raised.

I highly discourage you from scanning your library in. Keep your paper books; they're precious.

Hmmm. You should be able to edit the author information from your catalogue page just by double-clicking in the author field, or by pressing the "pencil" icon by the side of the work and then editing in the author field. I note that you also have another two works by a "James White": is this the same chap? How were you trying to make the change?

I fear this may be a futile attempt to harmonise the naming, because there are a number of other people that have the same attribution, and I think that some of those may be one-time Thingabrarians who will not get around to making the change.

Check out Project Gutenberg. They digitize many books, and allow you to add your own digitized copies - everything is free. Maybe you can find some of your desired books there.

There may be copyright issues concerning your scanning of books. Unless you have a license to republish, even for personal use, you could run into a problem with you project.

I would encourage you to stop mutilating your books, at least the rare or valuable titles. These "rebound" books are very likely to be worthless and unsalable.

I have found that it is easy to find books on half.com for a lot cheaper than even used bookstores. Several times I've paid more for shipping than the book itself. Hope that helps.
