You know, I bet I could pick up a TB book and enjoy it just as much as ever, myself. It was the interaction of Trixie and Honey and the whole aura of the manor house vs. the gate house that appealed to me at some level. For me, reading Owen was in answer to my quest for what exactly I beleived. I was raised arminian and was questioning scripture and developing a much more reformed theology. Now I realize there are too many treasures in scripture that man cannot logistically pigeonhole because of the power of the holy spirit. So I suppose I have evolved into a reformed charismatic in many ways. I have to admit that more I know the more I know that I dont know!

Hi Corrine, I was just perusing the what are you reading in the Christian group and noticed you were reading John Owen, Death of Death and the Death of Christ, which I tried to muddle through probably when I was just a little older than you- I am recently retired now, and I use my John Owen as a book end I am afraid. I was wondering if you did read it, how you liked it, and I guess I was extremely interested that you loved Trixie Belden books, apparently as much as I did, but I dont have them on my list because I really dont remember which ones I read, and dont own them now, but I really enjoyed visiting your list.

Thanks for your response! I have been using Barbour's book also which is very helpful. I have begun working on the translations already. I think that my fluency in Modern greek is also helping me a lot with Herododtus. Also, I took 1 year of greek at NYU which consisted of one semester of Homeric Greek and another semester of Attic Greek. I use several helpful grammar books including Goodwin's grammar and Smyth's grammar. I am also focusing on the differences od the Ionic Greek with the Attic to make it easier to understand. Barbour has a very lengthy section in the beginning of that book. Does this approach sound like im working in the right direction to you?

Corinne,

You mentioned that you did some translating of Herodotus from the Greek. How difficult was it? What referencs materials do you use and recommend?
