Tietoja minustaI am an avid reader and collector. I enjoy books on art, cooking, the Great War and the Roman Empire.

Tietoja kirjastostaniI dream every day about the library I want to build in my garage. This is a 24' x 18' x 9' space that currently has an old wood-burning fireplace in the centre and a cement floor. I want to fill three walls with floor-to-ceiling hardwood bookcases and I want natural light to pour in from skylights in the rafters.

Thanks a lot for adding me to your long list of interesting libraries. This site certainly contains a most fantastic cross-section of book lovers. I see we share an interest in history and the classical world in particular. You have a great collection. My cataloguing is still far from complete. I hope you will appreciate my history books covering the medieval period to World War 2 and beyond. I shall be cataloguing these when I've finished the biblical collection I'm doing at the moment.

On another note, go ahead with your dedicated library idea as soon as you can - you won't regret it. Most of my books live in a shed at the bottom of the garden. My profile picture shows part of it. It has books on three and a quarter sides, windows and door on the rest of the fourth side and three skylights - so, very similar to your plan.
Thank you, Autodafe, for putting my name on your list -- oooooops! I mean thanks for your interest in my library. I see that what we share most is an interest in works by classical authors. I can refine it further by telling you that I like the rock'em-sock'em stuff: Julius Caesar, YES! Cicero, Ehh.

Anyway, thanks for your interest. I will reciprocate, for what that's worth. 8-)

Deke.
Hi, thanks for adding me to your interesting libraries.
Leaves are just beginning to become very colorful and to begin falling here. I am reading a wondeful series that alternates between the 14th Century and present day, and between the Great Mortality and present possible bio-terrorism/outbreak with the lives of two physicians in eact setting. I am reading The Physician's Tale, 3rd volume now.
Thanks for adding me to your list of interesting libraries. I especially enjoyed browing through your history books and cookbooks.
Thanks for adding me as an interesting library!

When you build the library, please upload a picture. My current dream is the bookshelf in my flat. Right now, all my books are in bags, and boxes.
Thanks for considering me "interesting"

Re the Great War - have you read 'Tip and Run' (about the African Theatre) and 'The White War' (about the Italian theatre)

Both extremely interesting books :)

Cheers
Since all of the books you mentioned were fiction, I assume that is what you are looking for?

I have recommendations, but finding the books may be hard, since most are rather old.

The Enemy Below - D.A. Rayner (it was made into a movie in the 50s)
A Sailor of Austria - John Biggins (WWI)
Sharks and Little Fish - Wolfgang Ott (WWII U-Boat)
The Bedford Incident - Mark Rascovich (also a movie, not really about a sub, but involves one)

If you are interested in non-fiction, then there are too many to list. If you could tell me what period you are interested in I could narrow it down.
Thanks for adding me to yours as well! I like your variety of cookbooks in particular - they've been my newest collection category, and growing very rapidly. I love to see what others are out there and which are the best in their respective fields. Can't go wrong with a good cookbook :) And agreed about the Peruvian food - love the stuff!
Thank you for adding me to your list of Interesting Libraries - there seem to be many of us. Your interests must be many and various.
More from Bragg Creek...

I do hope that last Sunday was the last day I had to shovel snow! Otherwise, things are starting to get warmer here. Still about 2-3' of snow, but the sun is warm and I can almost imagine reading on the deck.

Lots of spring skiing in the Rockies and lots of happy skiers.

Finishing Imperium by Robert Harris, working through Shadows of the Mind by Roger Penrose, but most important of all re-orging my big bookshelf and setting to building a new set of shelves to catch some overflow. Yippee!

Hope all is well out your way.
Hi,
Thanks for the comment about my profile picture. I don't actually remember where I got it. I have friends that know what a book fanatic I am, and they send me really cool book/library graphics. I switch the pictures from time to time.
Good luck on building that library. I have always wanted one myself. I live in a 600 square foot house.... not nearly enough room for my books!!!
Thanks for adding my library to your interesting libraries list. I see we share two of my favorite novels, Auto da Fe and The Magic Mountain.

Jim
Thanks for adding me as an interesting library!

Greetings from one lover of classical Rome to another! I'm just getting to my Latin lit in translation, and I have another shelf or so of history books before I get to my Latin texts......(I have your Apicius too.) Now I'm going to rummage in your library. Stay in touch!
Peggy
Just wondered anything particular in the library you found interesting?

Thanks for showing an interest in my library. I built my book shelves about five years ago and I still look at them with the same wonder as the very first time i saw them finshed. It is a worthwhile endeavor. You will enjoy your library. It is peaceful and private. But it is the type of privacy you want to share. Carmelo
Thank you for your interest you showed in my collection. I'm still busy adding titels.
Saw an interesting titels in your new addition : A history of orgies, is that fiction ? It's great to stumble upon a title this way. Will check out your library when i get time.

Regards

Arjan
Thank you for adding me. We share some very interesting books. Last saturday I glanced through the (beautiful & expensive) Dutch translation of Hanuscheks Canetti biography and decided to wait for the paperback edition. Yes, its great to build libraries and dreams!

Greetings
Marieke
Hi, thank you for adding me to your interesting libraries list. Will enjoy having a snoop around your collection and reading your reviews when I get some time.

I dream of my perfect library too - I just live in rooms full of books, including teetering towers of them that tend to tumble from time to time. A good way of rediscovering something you'd forgotton at the bottom of a TBR pile I guess!

Seasons greatings and plenty of reading time!

Kind regards
Caroline
