Tietoja minustaI'm 30 years old, happily married to my husband Marc and Mum to the lovely Imogen (b. 3rd February 2008). I read when I can, but Imogen takes up most of my time now. I also enjoy listening to music (of many different genres) and to Radio 4. Cookery is another interest and I love spending time with my friends, most of whom are currently far too far away from me!

Tietoja kirjastostaniPretty varied, really. I like literary fiction and historical novels. Popular history, popular science, theology, philosophy, politics and current affairs are my main non-fiction interests. Biographies and foodie books are also in my library.

Thanks Allie. I'll plunder your interesting libraries collection to add ones to my own. Really interesting children's collection you have.
Hi

I saw you had added me to your 'interesting libraries' and came over to have a look at your library. How extraordinary that we have so many books in common, and over such a diverse range of books, from 'A Canticle for Leibowitz' and 'Lark Rise to Candleford', via 'Chaos', 'The Annotated Snark' and 'Where Did It All Go Right?' to 'The Mabinogion'.

Whenever I want a new author to read I'm going to check your library out to see what I'm missing!

Paul
Thanks for adding me to your interesting libraries list.

Best Wishes,

Jim
Hi, Allie! Thanks for adding me to your "interesting libraries." I wasn't ignoring you, I just don't sign in to my second account very often. In fact, I'm in the process of merging the two libraries now that I can keep my children's books in a separate "collection" in my first account. Your little girl is darling. You're going to have years of fun! I loved all my years of cuddling up and reading to my two boys, and am so looking forward to doing it all over again with grandchildren--though that's going to be a while, darn it! Take care, and happy reading! Bonnie
Hey there, thanks for the interesting library add...I see a lot of my wife's favorites amoung yours (esp. Margaret Atwood)!
Hi there Allie...thanks for including me in your overstuffed armchair of interesting libraries! As the grandfather of three, let me wish you and Imogen and Marc a journey that includes LOTS of sleep. Someday.

Cheers
RMD
Hi there,

As far as I remember (it was a long time ago) I found 'Promised Lands' seriously inept and boring, so gave up on it fairly quickly. 1.5 stars is my code for 'I gave up', though I have the feeling the LT convention may be 1.

Sorry I can't be more helpful, and do feel free to disagree!

Howard
Thanks for adding me to your intersting libraries. I see you also have my daughter and a few of my friends on your list.

Good to meet you. :-)
thanks for adding me to your interesting libraries.

Best wishes
Valerie
Thanks for including mine among your interesting libraries. I feel like I am in good company.

Regards,
Alex
Hey there AllieW,

I felt honoured when you added me to your interesting library :). Then I saw how many you had :( lol... No worries though.

Dan
*waves*

Thanks for the interesting libraries add! We seem to have a lot of books in common, though we don't share a single favorite author. Funny how that goes. I see you've recently added a Sayers mystery. I haven't read that one yet, but Sayers is a fantastic author. Lord Peter and Harriet Vane start off as fairly well-written characters, but as the series progresses they become something much deeper.

Your daughter is beautiful. My husband and I don't have any children yet, but in a few years I hope to be able to boast about mine too :)
It's all in the definition! If by "friend" you mean noting how we share favorites like "Winter of the Birds" I'm yours. (But nix on Facebook please.)
I see you've really gone through other people's libraries! I've been concentrating on organising my own so far but I've recntly started looking for books to add to my wishlist. Is the Chalet School collection yours or are you getting it ready for Imogen? I can't interest my daughter (now 21) in my Girlsown books. The CD stands for Crawley Down - not that far from Banstead.
Oh I am an EZ fan! I bought KWT when it first came out -- I was 16 -- and it changed my knitting life.

Please feel free to rummage through my virtual bookshelves, that's why I have an open account. Connections.

Nice to hear from you.
Children do absorb a lot of your time and energy, but mostly satisfyingly so--especially in those younger years! I'm glad you're enjoying and making use of my children's library. Warning! :-) I've got lots more books to enter. I'm just waiting to see if LT can merge the two now that there's the "collection" feature. I'm also trying to decide whether to add books I've read, but don't own--I more often borrowed from the library than bought books when they were younger, and we went through dozens every week. B.
Isn't it fun to check out other libraries? Thanks for including mine; I'll have to go check out what's in yours. Are you primarily posting in the 50-Book group or the 75? My oldest is actually older than you are, so hoping it won't be too many years before I get a cutie pie like yours to love and babysit. :-) Happy reading!
It's not a bad book; it was actually a pretty fun read. But I felt like it had much more potential. You'll find that my 3 bones rating means that it is a good read but flawed. You should still enjoy it. Those of us on the 75'er group don't really pay any attention to the numbers. Some of us make the 75 books and some don't and some go way over. It's just a great community of readers who like to review and post their thoughts about their reading. You should check us out.

Where's Banstead?
Thanks for the nod as an interesting library. I see you are a 50 book challenger. If you're interested in more of my reading and stuff, I am a 75'er and you can hunt my thread up there. I will have to check for your thread on the 50 book group.

How did you happen on my library?
937 books! And I thought my collection was big! Next time my girlfriend complains about all my books, I'll show her your collection! :-)

Thanks for adding me to your favourite libraries list. Very flattered.

Yours is excellent too. And you like Paddington Bear! My kind of gal! ;-)
I am so flattered that you find my library interesting. I plan to take a closer look at yours too! Your daughter is just lovely and her name is fantastic.

I Lay Me Down And Slumber
by: A.E. Housman (1859 - 1936)

I lay me down and slumber
And every morn revive.
Whose is the night-long breathing
That keeps a man alive?
When I was off to dreamland
And left my limbs forgot,
Who stayed at home to mind them,
And breathed when I did not?

I waste my time in talking,
No heed at all takes he,
My kind and foolish comrade
That breathes all night for me.

Noticed you liked The Virgin Suicides, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here as well as a few other book-related sites. Thought you might like my book since it's also about a dysfunctional family and a bit dark. I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like (I'm out of physical copies at the moment). Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

About Coe. I just realized I have one of his books. The Rotters, of course I haven't read it yet. Silly me.

Ficus
Thanks Allie. The Blurb was some help. Is there a reason you got it ? Are you a Coe fan, or has it had good buzz there ?

Maybe its an import (for me), and that is why there is so little info. I will check Amazon.UK and the Book Depository.

I will watch connections to see if you rate it or give it stars and then ask you about it again. If I remember.
Hi Allie,

I saw through connection news that you added a book called Dwarves of Death by Jonathan Coe. It sounds like a funky book, but I can't find much info on it on LT or Amazon. Can you tell me anything? Is it a mystery, or humorous, or fantasy ?

Thanks

FicusFan
Hi Allie

Finally got the chance to look at your library and found lots of inspiration there. My wishlist has just grown much bigger!

Thanks for the ideas!

Char
Thanks for the message on my profile; I likewise look forward to looking through your collection!

Anthony (Manipled Mutineer.)
Thanks for marking me an "Interesting Library". Yours is as well, I might add. I too favor Margaret Atwood although you wouldn't know it from the complete lack of evidence in my library, lol. I'm 28 and mother to a 4-year-old. Lovely to hear that you're expecting one of your own. I'll watch your library and maybe we can share book reccomendations?
Hi, Allie. Thanks for liking my library. I see I'm in great company. Gorgeous cat. Congratulations on the baby. That's really lovely. I see you gave Ted Hughes' Crow 5 stars. I recently had to put it on hiatus because it was making me uncomfortable in a way I have trouble articulating. What was your experience, if you don't mind? Talk to you soon.
Oh, Imogen is a gorgeous name!
Amanda
Hi Allie
Received today from Amazon a copy of The Ode Less Travelled which I ordered on your recommendation. I've been looking for something like this for ages. I started to read it and it's wonderful. Thanks so much for that information. (You mentioned it on one of the groups.) How's your pregnancy going?
Amanda XXXX
HI Allie,

Welcome to LibraryThing! Many thanks also for adding me to your list of interesting libraries - now I have the pleasure of looking at your library. What a beautiful kitty in the photo!
Hello,
thanks for adding my library to your list of interesting ones. I will enjoy perusing through yours: one can always learn a lot from other people's reading tastes!
Best wishes for the baby, I hope she/he will give you as much joy as mine have to me.
:-))
Hi! Just wanted to say thanks for finding my library interesting. I am flattered, lol. Good luck with the baby! And happy reading! :)
Hi Allie,

Thanks for adding me to your Interesting Libraries. You have a fascinating collection, yourself, and I've noted many for my "to be read" list. Have fun picking out books for the baby. Before I had my son I asked everyone I knew whether it was possible to have a baby and read a book. The most honest answer I got was, "No, but you won't care." Within a couple of months, though, I was reading again and had all the fun of building a collection for my child, too. Enjoy every moment.

Barb
Hello Allie
Thank you for including my library in your interesting library list!
Cyrel
Hi Allie,
Actually, I hadn't noticed, and after re-re-reading it, still can't find any trace of rudeness. So.. sorry, I have no idea what you are talking about :-)

Cheers,
Ben
Thanks for your message. I'm currently reading Isla Dewar's latest 'Consequences of marriage', very good actually. I like her early stuff but struggled with others. Just finished Rupert Everett's autobiography 'Red carpets and other banana skins' written very well and very funny. Any recommendations gratefully received!

James
Thanks for finding my library interesting! :o)

Trudy
Thanks! I admit I was first drawn to your library because of your kitty's picture, but I was not disappointed further on.
hi Allie. thanks for adding me too. love the picture of your cat! felines who read are my favourite people.
Thanks Allie for adding me to your interesting libraries. I see we share the Pat Barker books - such a great read. I've just finished Maggie O'Farrell's "The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox". A fiction about the treatment of unconventional women in the 1930s... a mental health theme - sad and spellbinding.

Enhorabuena (congratulations) and all the best for the upcoming birth
Pamela.
Thanks for the add, Allie. Your list looks interesting. I look forward to looking through your catalog. And maybe seeing you in Facebook, too.
Thanks for the Gallico recommendations. I will be sure to check them out my next book store excursion. I love the kitty photo. My future husband and I have three kitties, they are the perfect companions for readers.
Hi Allie,

Thanks, and congrats to you too! When are you due? Do you know the sex yet? Have any names chosen?

I'm slowly building the wee one's library, but I doubt I'll be able to catalog them all! If I have my way, this baby will love books as much as I do, and the library will never be done! :)
What a beautiful kitty! I couldn't look too long or my own would start to get jealous. What's his name?
Hi Allie, welcome to LibraryThing! I'm flattered to be listed among your 'interesting libraries' :D Regards, Laura.
Hello Allie,
Thanks for adding me to your interesting libraries list. Enjoy the reading and radio 4 while you can - reading time becomes a rare commodity once you got a kid, unless you count reading "Harry the Dirty Dog" at least twice a day!

Regards
Sarah
Hi Allie,

Thanks for adding me to your interesting libraries - we share a very large number of books. Best wishes with your impending birth.
Hello Allie, I am glad you like my library. We seem to have enough books in common to have some shared interests but enough that are different to make for interesting perusing when I am looking for yet another book to read. I notice you listed Paul Gallico as a favorite author. I've only read [Manx Mouse] which I had to order used from someone in Australia but it is lovely.
Hi Allie - glad you like my library! I am happy to return the compliment: we don't seem to have many books or genres in common, but I am fascinated by some of your books, and am delighted to find More Sodding Days Out (added to my Amazon wishlist with its predecessor).
Hi Allie,
As with others, thanks for adding my library to those others that you've already deemed worthy of interest. And best wishes with your baby.

Merely out of curiosity, what sorts of criteria are you looking for when adding interesting libraries? I noticed that we have joined a number of the same groups, so I look forward to contributing to and reading your contributions to those discussions as well.

I thought your library was interesting in itself as well - there were several books that caught my attention as interesting that I hadn't heard of before - Beef & Liberty, Coal, Devil's Cup, Fish Caught in Time, Medici Money, Necropolis, and the Short History of Tractors in Ukranian. I'd be interested to read more about what you thought of these as well. Some of them may be added to my ever growing TBR pile.
Cheers!
Ben
Hi there, thanks for adding me to your interesting libraries. What are you reading at the moment? James
From the looks of it, you've stirred up quite an interest in Stephen Fry and his books! What fun! :-)
Just looked up The Ode Less Travelled on amazon.com--and discovered to my amazement and delight that the Stephen Fry, author is THE Stephen Fry, the British actor! Whom I adore. And the blurbs for the bookk are wonderful--it's what I really need, as I am a total idiot when it comes to poetry. Thanks again for the recommendation!
Hello Allie,
Thanks for the compliment. I've been on LT a few months and just discovered this comments feature due to you — now realize it's because I had show comments disabled.
Thanks for adding me as an Interesting library.
Having a quick look at yr catalogue I see you haven't rated "The Sea". This is one I would recommend, I think I might even be getting my dad a copy for not-too-long-away Xmas :)
Good luck with the 1,001!
...just noticed you and your partner are expecting your first child soon. Congratulations on that. My wife Ann-Marie & I are expecting our first in November. I suppose we`ll have to act like grown-ups now !

Nick
Hi,

Thanks for adding me to your `interesting libraries` list - no-one`s ever done that before, it`s quite gratifying.

I see you`ve also joined the two Brits groups - they tend to be rather quiet, but who knows, that could change.

I`m only doing limited LTing at present as I hurt my back picking up a box of books last week - it`s no big deal, but I`m not supposed to be spending much time sitting at the computer.

No doubt once I`ve regrouped a bit we`ll meet again on LT.

Best,

Nick
Hi, Allie. Welcome and thank you for the compliment. I haven't cataloged nearly half of my books and, in looking over some of yours, I see that we actually have many more books in common than is listed. I haven't used the interesting library feature yet so I apologize for not adding you. My husband travels periodically to England for work and we have been trying to arrange for me to go with him one of these times but it just has never happened. It is a little difficult with 4 kids to go so far away. Good luck with the baby!
Hi Allie,

Thanks for adding me to your list. I can see we share some interests and your catalogue oozes suggestions for new reading! I haven't catalogued everything I own yet. I still have lots to go, so we might even find more in common when I get around to listing them all.

Judy
Hi, Allie. Thanks for adding me to your list of Interesting Libraries. I hope you find some good suggestions there. We seem to share an affection for Marlowe and historical novels.

I really wanted to get down to see some of the gardens in Kent when I was in London last July, but none of the tours were on (and I'm nervous about driving on the left side of the road). The time before I managed to get to Penshurst, which was lovely.

Congratulations on your forthcoming baby. Another little reader and future LTer, eh?

Deborah
Hello there Allie. Sorry to say my library probably makes me sound more interesting than I actually am, but then as you can meet some interesting people by seeming to be interesting, I see no reason to stop buying books!

Have you got your complete collection on yet? The 'books you share' thing seems to be a bit buggy currently as it's showing some books I'm sure I haven't got; and I shan't return the favour of putting you in my interesting libraries yet, if you don't mind, until I figure out if it actually does anything!

Bye for now
Hi Allie and Welcome to LT. It's a wonderful place - and quite addicting!
Thanks for adding my library to your already impressive list.
Wonderful news about your new baby girl in January.
Best wishes.
Cate
Hello Allie

You are most kind to add me to your Interesting Libraries list. Thank you. My husband once advertised for someone vaguely interesting and ended up with me. It is an honour to be upgraded at last!

You have so much pleasure ahead of you sharing books with your baby.Have the happiest and most trouble free of Birthdays.
best wishes
Lizx
Hi Allie: thanks for the compliment of being added as an interesting library. Happy reading!
Hi Allie, thanks for adding me to your "interesting libraries"! Welcome to LibraryThing. It looks like we share some common interests, so look forward to discussing books with you!
Hi Allie - thanks for adding me as an "interesting library" - that's the first time that's happened to me! Just been having a browse through your library, and I must thank you for reminding me that I seem to have forgotten to add my poetry and short stories to my library. I can see a few books in your library which I think are going to have to go on my wishlist - particularly the Humphrey Lyttelton autobiography. I went to see Humph and the boys in the ISIHAC tour last week in Birmingham. A great night, especially the audience kazoo participation.

Enjoy LibraryThing!
Hi! Thanks for adding me to your interesting libraries list. I see we share some Beryl Bainbridge, which is neat--she's one of my favorite writers.
Hi Allie, thanks for adding me to your interesting library list, I'm really flattered! I look forward to browsing through your catalogue

Kathryn x
Hi Allie, thanks for adding me to your interesting libraries :) Looks like we have very similar reading tastes. Congratulations on your pregnancy!
Hi Allie, my brother lives in Banstead too. Thanks for adding me to your interesting libraries. We share some great books (and a love of R4), and you have some other great ones too - I was drawn to 'Necropolis' instantly and will rush off to try and find a copy.

Congratulations on your bump - I hope everything goes smoothly for you.
Regards
Annabel
Hi Allie,

Welcome to LT! I did some investigative work so I already know that Banstead is in Surrey, and that your baby girl is due in January. ;-) Congratulations!

I look forward to browsing through your library.

Isabel
Hi Allie and thanks for adding me to your intersting libraries section. How are you getting on with the 50 book challenge?
Hi, Allie! Welcome to LibraryThing! And congrats on the new baby! If you need anything, please let me know.

Happy Reading!
Jill
Hi Allie

Look forward to peeking at your library!

Char
Welcome, fair Kentish maid!
Hello, Allie,

Warm welcome to librarything. I think you will find it a great source of fun and fodder for great reading.

Congrats on the baby due, too!!!

Cheers,

Karen
Hi Allie
Is Banstead in England? When is your baby due??
Amanda XXXXXX
Hello, Allie, and welcome to LibraryThing! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Congratulations on the impending family addition.
