Start with E (heaviest ["1st string"]. Press behind 5th fret, to produce A for the 2d open string. 5th fret up the 2d string, to produce D for the 3d open string. Press behind 5th fret of D string, 3d, for G, to tune the 4th string.

Press 4th fret of the G string to tune the 5th open string to B. Press just behind the 5th fret of the B string, for the open E of the 6th string.
